I'm going to assume we're all at least somewhat aware of the sex trial stuff of the past year. Doing some research on Pitcairn Island for something I'm writing, I found some interesting stuff on their webpage.
The defence offered by the women and men of Pitcairn Island during the sex trial:
"But the island's women said yesterday that Pitcairn, Britain's last
dependency in the South Pacific, had had a tradition of under-age sex
since it was settled by the mutineers from HMS Bounty in 1790."
The (unchanged since the trial) Pitcairn Island web page:
"Intending residents and short term visitors should be willing to fit in
with the life-style of the community and would be expected to comply
with the customs of the island as conscience allows."
