I'm a film guy and usually involve myself with this stuff, but this year I really don't care so much. In fact, two of the major films nominated, Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty, I honestly have no interest in seeing whatsoever.

I agree. I was lucky enough to see it a few weeks early. Regardless of how accurate it may be, or the politics behind it, it was a well-directed, intense film. Loved it.

If anything, I'd say 2012 was one of the best years for movies in a long time. I don't think I saw a single dud!

Last year was great for movies, only Best Picture nomination I haven't seen yet is Amour, the rest were great movies. After Argo winning against Lincoln last night, I think it has a better shot at winning the Oscar, and even better if it wins the SAG award for outstanding performance by a cast (their best picture award, basically) on the 27th.

Was the teddy bear in TED nominated for anything?
If not, then I ain't interested.
Best cinematic performance of all time!!!

seriously???

this has been the worst year for movies in a very long time. I used to go an see 2 or 3 a weekend every week. this year I think I maybe saw 10 movies in the theater.

Interestingly enough, this year I happened to see more movies than any other year in a very long time.....

Maybe its because I don't get out to too many these days, I actually liked them all.

The only ones I saw that were probably nominated were:
FRANKENWEENIE (awesome!)
ARGO (amazing)

Others I saw that I actually liked, but were in no way original or OSCAR worthy:
PITCH PERFECT (looks brutal from the ads, but was pretty crude, plus Brittany Snow is hot!)
TED (Pot smoking, potty mouthed, bong pulling, perverted teddy bear who belongs to Marky Mark. How can you go wrong?)
POSSESSION (Sure, its been dubbed the "Jewish" exorcist. I still enjoyed it as unoriginal as it is)
DIARY OF A WIMPY KID - DOG DAYS (The jokes and characters are getting old ,but the kids like it so its all good)

Ted was nominated for best original song, though it won't win.

LOL - Are you serious or joking?
I know nothing about the Oscars.

Is it the song they sing that says F U to thunderstorms?

I'm serious, it was nominated for:

"Everybody Needs A Best Friend" from Ted Music by Walter Murphy; Lyric by Seth MacFarlane

Unfortunately for Seth McFarlane, the winner will be:

"Skyfall" from Skyfall Music and Lyric by Adele Adkins and Paul Epworth

I thought so too until I took a look at the last couple of years.

I'd expect Lincoln and Les Miserables to clean up just about everything.

Biggest snub: Denis Lavant for Holy Motors...come on, man!

I don't know. I'm just getting sick of movies based off real events, especially having to do with war and politics and personally, it just seems a little early to have made this a movie so far.
It's not too early. Take it from me. If I'm fine with this, you should be fine too.
Not trying to hate or anything, but just look at my avatar and tell me it's too early to make this a movie... (even though it's really tiny and you really can't see the name here :( )

Shame. Zero Dark Thirty was awesome.
Was it? Good. Do they actually show the part where they blow his brains out? That part means a lot to me.

Also, it looked like the dude who plays Andy from "Parks and Recreation" is in it. If he's not, there were 2 dudes in the trailer who look almost exactly like him. If he is in it, that's one of the best acting leaps I've ever seen in my life. If not, oh well. Still looks like a kickass movie.

Not counting the laundry list of all the great "fun" movies like The Avengers, Savages, 21 Jump Street, Man With the Iron Fists, Ted, etc that came out this year there was:

Jiro Dreams Of Sushi
Lincoln
Django Unchained
The Hobbit
Hunger Games
The Dark Knight Rises
This is Not a Film
West of Memphis
Argo
Moonrise Kingdom
Zero Dark Thirty

And a shitload of others that I haven't yet even seen like Kon-Tiki and Searching For The Sugar man that were serious 10/10 (imo) movies that you usually get maybe 5 or so times a year. Last year, you had all these incredible "serious films" and great "fun" flicks as well. I don't think I saw a shitty movie all year. In fact, this year - I can't honestly think of an exciting movie that I want to see. Last year... there are STILL movies from last year I missed and want to see.

Of course, opinions are subjective, but I just found that last year was just ridiculous in terms of quality films.
