Playing past win conditions

So I've heard much contradictory information concering whether it is possible to play past win conditions in this game. I finally won the long campaign and was not allowed to continue after gaining 50 provinces. So is it only the short campaign that lets you play on or is there some patch I've missed?

Also, I was under the impression that by "Imperator" they meant you had to see the destruction or subjugation of the other Roman factions.

If you wanna continue conquering you will have to give up Rome.
So let it revolt.

I'd rather just have the option of continuing play. Perhaps I'll just let that campaign go and try a non-Roman faction.

Well then you are shit out of luck.
No one has been able to play beyond conquering rome and 50 provinces unless you save Rome for last.

I wouldn't know, because I haven't even played up till the Marian reforms. Well actually, only up until 160 B.C.

I have no time to play RTW which sucks.
