Please check out my band's latest video (fast/heavy/proggy content)

well done! guitar tone has that cool break up to it! nice video production!

Thanks man. Fuzz pedals galore on guitars - Black Arts Black Forest into 5150 III and Double Muff into a JMP.

My friend shot the video - his first EVER music video. He smashed it. All the crew are at the National Film and Television school so they really knew their shit... especially the director of photography. And they all worked for free. Respect to those guys.

I like the location lighting, & editing. Lots of good stuff here, it's VERY well done.

Was the main band scene lit with natural light or did you have some massive scrims going?

Not a fan of splotchy creamed-spinach Canon DLSR video, however.

Really cool song! Love the production as well.

thanks man. The producer is a guy called Andrew Schneider. Done a lot of cool stuff with some great bands.

dig the music/video bro! congrats. :)

Cheers bro!

Thanks dude. Huge lights - we actually blocked all the windows of with foil. The director of photography is going all the way to the top according to everyone he works with (though I can't really comment on that - I'm an audio dude with a vague video interest)

I'd say it looks better than a lot of stuff I've seen on a 5D. We were trying to find a Red ONE but couldn't get one for free. The video came in at around £1500 - half on lights and half on location and a Red ONE was a lot to hire.

Our facebook link is www.facebook.com/empressband by the way...

Cool. Well, my hat is off to whoever lit it, he did a masterful job.

BTW, with the announcement of the BlackMagic production cam, Red One MX rentals should be dirt cheap. If they're not, tell the rental house to go eat a bag of elephant shit :)

And you can land a Panasonic GH2 for around $500, with twice the video resolution of a Canon DLSR. I've been shooting a pair of them for about a year now & they're fantastic.

the red one are fucking expensive, i'm not sure it would have made a worthful difference ? Anyway, I like the video too, you managed to make it look quite professional with what you/the guy had. It's easy to look amateurish in this kind of videos, which is not the case. I kinda dig the song although I must admit it's not my cup of tea normally with this kind of choruses, but I like the few parts that make the song more dynamic. What steadicam did the guy use do you have any idea ? It's convincing and I'd like to find the correct range of price for a good bang/bucks ratio with one of those !

Canon is pretty much a standard for everything nowadays. And there's nothing wrong with it thought, it just have "that" look. Some people like it / some don't. I'd really like to get some GH2s to start producing live performance videos from my studio.

Awesome tips - thanks man. I do try and take an interest in video stuff and I like the crossover and comparisons with the audio world. We were going to try and get an FS700 for its 240 fps but it was hard to find one at late notice. That super slow-mo bit (bass strings rattling) was done with a plugin (are they even called plugins?!) called Twixtor. Super clever little thing.

Thanks man. Yeh I'd say our stuff is for the more Mastodon/Thrice/Poison the Well inclined type. The album has some really progged out stuff on it though! Nice one for checking it out man. I'll find out about the steadicam too.

Nice man. Looking forward to seeing that if you get it going.
