IMO, the standard version is useful but severely cut-down.
but for this price its a good deal.

Platinum version is well worth it.
There's some crap on there, but there's also some fucking amazing sounds too in there when you get your head around it

Aye,
PodFarm Platinum was one of the best things i ever bought.
there are a lot of "one-trick-pony" amps and modules in there, but there is a huge variety of them.
the effects alone, and the Cali Diamond Plate model are well worth the price.

I dunno why it says "optional iLok required" though - it wouldn't be any use without an iLok (or POD hardware dongle).

I would only buy the platinum, I hate the cut-off versions, always leaves me wanting more.

well, you can use podx3 to play live and software for recording only? unless ofcourse you do the revolutionary laptop/interface for a live rig trick but that's a different story

I think it's because you "could" also buy an iLok dongle from thomann, but you don't have to. (You have to own one, though. So it's a trap

I'm not desperately interested in the guitar processing with pod, but is it worth going for the platinum over the standard purely for the bass processing?
You can download Pod Farm Platinum if you have an X3 and the pod basically serves as your dongle. For instance, I connect it via USB and then just plug in through my preamp. You could always do a di split and track one in through the pod and one to your pre so that you have a Dry and a Wet track.
I personally tend to like the tones out of my Pod more than I like the same tone in Pod Farm. It's odd that I feel that way since there are more conversion stages (a>d>a>d) vs just a to d. Ordered some new converters today so I'm imagining everything is going to sound better soon.

That's my intention, mainly thinking of getting it for bass and possibly some clean and lead guitar tones.
so there is no difference tone wise between podfarm platinum and a pod x3?, in recording matters than i mean
