I'm really loving using my sE electronics R-1 for vocals, it's got a great smooth sound and takes EQ amazingly, but obviously I need a pop shield as tights stretched over a coat hanger just doesn't have that professional touch haha!

Any recommendation? Basically I'm looking for the cheapest thing that works without messing with the sound too much

If you want something that does the same job as your tights/coat hanger filter, then any $20 pop shield will work. If you want something that's still fairly inexpensive, but won't suck up highend, get a Stedman.

i can't tell you what to buy because they're all more or less the same, but i can recommend staying away from those large rode ones with the filter made out of some sort of plastic.

seriously i can't believe rode could fuck up manufacturing a simple pop filter. it's letting half as much air into the mic than any other pop filters i've used.

20 dollar Guitar Center special. Get a few if you've got any distaste for the smell of week old spittle.

i saw one at guitar center for 25 bucks, and it was the same exact thing i had made, just an embroidery hoop with a couple layers of pantyhose. i spent 6 bucks making mine.

here is a picture i just made to show how to make it, and it works for me

I'd get a metal filter (like the Stedman) if more than one person is going to be using it. That way you can clean the Taco Bell and beer off of it between sessions. Better to drop $50-60 on a metal filter than buy a new cheap filter every couple weeks.
