Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet

shhh you we already had this convo. That being it's still really good, but not up to pt standards to the rest of the songs new cd, and sounds exactly like a blackfield song.

Having finally listened to the new album, I am in agreement with this. However, unlike your thoughts of In Absentia being a peak, I am more of the opinion that it marks the beginning of the downfall that progressed onto Deadwing. Part of it reeks of an "emptiness" that is all over Deadwing, and I just can't shake it when I listen. Although In Absentia does contain some spectacular moments, I just can't regard it on the level everyone else considers it, at this juncture.

Well, if we are talking about an album being their peak, I'd have to say that it is Stupid Dream, but I just consider that set of albums to be Porcupine Tree at the top of their game, and then Deadwing as a huge downfall. I'm glad you agree with me on Deadwing. I was beginning to think I was the only one.

I like Deadwing. Though it was my first PT album and what got me introduced to them, so yeah...

Only 2 albums by PT I really don't care for (but can still listen to on occasion) are On The Sunday Of Life and Lightbulb Sun.

I will admit that "Arriving Somewhere but not Here" is a spectacular tune.... but it is rather formulaic compared to PT epics of the past....

but then again one could say "Russia on Ice" is a direct rip off of Crimso's "Starless" :P but that doesn't make me hold anything against that tune either, just sayin'
