You can do that. You can use WMP but it always freezes so most people with one just drag n drop files.

Well if you're going overseas or away from your home for a long period of time then I think that's fine to have a huge amount of space (that's why I bought my 20GB). But if you're only using it to go to work or just in spare time in general then you can just put on the music you feel like you want to listen to plus a bit. Then when you get home you can put whatever you feel like on there again. I mean, something like 8GB fits more than enough to go through one day.

Ken, what are you talking about? iPods can play a number of different formats, including the ubiquitous .wav. What would you be trying to get it to play that you couldn't? I know it doesn't support ALL, but to say you are limited to some specific Apple format is just wrong.
And, folks, not true about iTunes being the only way to sunc the iPod, either. Though, again, why you would want to use anything different eludes me. But look here.

if you'd read my point number (3?) i think it was, there already are better players than ipoop. have you never heard of Creative Labs? Not to mention that when you buy an ipod, you pay largely for the "apple" name and the fashion statement it's become. not to mention that apple does not make their products durable or with a robust warranty, because they want you to take it on the chin when it breaks.

Kenneth, I feel like I'm really at odds with you on this, and I don't like it!
I think we often agree on things.But.... @30 gigs, the iPod is cheaper than the Creative Labs MP3 player by about $50. And as far as a warranty goes, they are pretty much the same (1 year limited, blah, blah), except that with Apple, you get 90 days of free phone support. Not available for Creative. The only plus I see for Creative is that there is a replaceable battery, which has long been a deficiency of iPods. So far, I haven't had battery problems, but I expect I will at some point, which pisses me off. The iPod will be pretty much useless at that point, as I understand it.
Also, nothing above 60 gig for Creative.
Also, no gapless playback with Creative.
I hope that someone can mount a decent war against the iPod and from it we get cheaper, better MP3 players. That would be great. I'm not really even a pro Mac guy. For everything else in life, I use PC's. Mainly because they're cheaper and meet my current needs

Creative has some bigger capacity models now as well. I must include my bias (although I'm sure it's clear by now) that I despise Apple and their form before function attitude. Aside from the informed consumer, I would wager easily that the majority of ipod buyers do so because "everyone else has one".

Hey, Kenneth, this is where I found my info. They seem to only go up to 60gig, whereas iPods go to 80gig.
I appreciate the bias, man. Unfortunately, this is one of the cases where an an informed consumer who wants top of the line and a dork who's just getting what everyone else have will often make the same choice. It happens.
I don't like that Apple basically plans for obsolescence. It's a shitty aspect of their business model. My Dad had a computer store when I was a kid, and I remember when the Macintosh was released... later on I worked in an Apple Value Added Retail store as a salesperson (which I hated, but it was extra $). This is before they had Apple Stores. We serviced all of Disney World's computers and the rest of the Orlando area. Then the Apple Store, among other things, killed it. The whole while, I always sort of hated Apple. My dad hated Apple from the start... maybe it rubbed off. I've had my share of macs, and we used to use them exclusively in the studio. But, truly, I kind of hate the arrogance.
But, the iPod is still my choice. Oh well.

I swore they had a 80 and 100gb... might have been Archos. What I do know is that Apple aren't the only ones with that capacity, and certainly aren't the best designed system out there, yet they're the most popular by a landslide!
Afaic, I tried various mp3 players and the Ipod is still my #1 choice, regardless of the popularity.

Yeah, it sucks. My wife's a bit of a usability/human factors person; she'd have a field day with this!Pretty cool. I wouldn't use the video component at all, I don't think (I feel about that like some people here feel about not going MP3). I'll have to see if I can find some feedback on it. Thanks.
Complete bullshit. iPods play a whole bunch of formats (including mp3, what with it being an mp3 player and all). You also don't need iTunes, there are various third party applications that you can use to put files onto an iPod. I use the ml_ipod winamp plugin myself. Works fine.

Yep, same here. The 30GB video version. Black, hehe. I agree, it's fucking sweet. I put my ENTIRE cd collection on there (was time-consuming but HIGHLY worth it.) I have just over 2, 000 songs on there right now.
