Positive Grid's BIAS head

Anyone else has been hearing about this lately?

Basically it looks like competition for the Kemper units, but at less than half the price. Seems like they won't start delivering their first pre-orders until June, but if their plugins are anything to go by, I'm guessing it could be interesting:

The tone matching didn't sound that close but this is only one video and its early days. At this stage I doubt it will do what the kemper does because the it doesn't seem like it is profiling the dynamics of the amp, rather tone matching your playing.

In saying that BIAS entering the market can only be a good thing. The more competition there is, the better it is for us consumers. I am sure they will keep developing their tone matching algorithm as well.

Yeah, I would doubt the profiling capabilities 'match' the ones in the Kemper, but it'll be interesting to see how they do it/what kind of results can be achieved. Not having clips or anything yet, I think a plus for this would be the amount of FREE sharing of presets among users (versus probably mostly B-grade, less-shared, or paid ones on the Kemper).
The presets on BIAS FX are top notch for playing along popular rock artists/songs, that's the best value for their plugins above all their competitors, imo. It would be interesting if the same amount of preset sharing translates into this unit (although their selling point for it -as opposed to just using their plugins- seems to be having a built-in power amplifier (600W?) and 'no latency', which an updated audio/pc setup should take care of, anyway). I'm guessing it probably won't happen (because of the price difference between buying a $10 dollar plugin and a $1000+ physical contraption) but it could eventually end up benefiting their virtual/plugin counterpart if their tone matching of real amps is good enough and the compatibility to the amp sim plugin works both ways without limitations.

Only thing it is good for is setting up market for new stuff and that's it. I don't like sound of BIAS or examples of Fluff's BIAS amp. But most mind boggling and annoying is that they call it "Amp match" when it's fucking "EQ match". If I want EQ match I'll go with free stuff that's in development, available to use and already kick ass -

Curious to see how this plays out but my opinion at this point is that it is a bit too expensive.

I bought a used kemper for $1500 over a year ago. It doesn't seem like it's trying to take on the kemper toe to toe, so considering the price difference isn't that great i'd go with a kemper again at this point.

The original eq match video Ryan put out last year or whenever sounded laughably shitty- and not because he did anything wrong. If this is relying on the same process it's an absolute scam.

I tried it out once and after tweaking with it for 15 minutes I decided to delete the trial, I'll stick to X50 as my to go amp sim

Well, I've watched a couple other videos now and thinking about it, seems like the comparison to a Kemper isn't really fair.

The pool of user's BIAS presets are quite good for getting similar tones to those of famous recordings and songs (SRV bluesy stuff, Satriani-esque presets, Sweet Child Of Mine, Paradise City, Cliffs Of Dover, some Metallica and KSE-like presets, Pink Floyd, to name a few), I think that's where all the 'praise' comes from. I've tried the plugins on someone else's guitars/setup with those presets I mentioned, and they work well enough for doing stuff like improvising over backing tracks.

So, not really the same thing as getting recording-usable tones, or an amp sim for modern metal, I guess.
Still, I think with a physical unit they might be wanting to try to compete alongside the Axe-FX, Kemper, etc.

I agree. I also messed with the bias for some hours and I couldnt a useful tone. There is something akward going on for high gain tones, dont seem organic at all. I cant also understand all the praise about it.
