I've been doing a fair bit of practice using a compressor, these are the settings i've been using:

threshold: -29.3 dB
knee: 15 dB
ratio: 3.6

It's struck me that using a compressor might be making me get away with playing a bit sloppier by being inconsistent with how hard i hit each note. Sounds better with a compressor but i'm thinking maybe i shouldn't be using it for practicing? Or i'm thinking maybe i should practice with a lower ratio?

no ditch the comp. use a gain setting that is slightly lower than you are comfortable with. tons of people chase the inflames guitar tone or whatever, but these tones are actually very undergained and played with a steady fretting hand, and a powerfull pick attack
