Preamp for Sm7B

I'd like to rent a preamp to record the vocals of the band I'm doing right now, something better than just plugging my SM7b in my profire 2626...

I heard the API 512c was good with this mic..

Any suggestions?

The music is radio rock, really similar to Creed.

I bought this a while back (with the full mod), and love it with my sm7b:

I find the sm7 to be a little bit stuffy sounding with most firewire preamps, especially without the mid-boost switch on. This pre tends to pull out some low mids and adds some high mids to make the vocals cut through better.

From the high-end stuff, I've recorded the SM7 through an API3124, UA8110 and a TL Audio M series tube console. You really can't go wrong with the API or UA unit, so I'd say an API 3124 or 512c should be a sure bet.

You could also check out the UA LA-610. Great preamp for vocals and you get some analog compression.
