Did this mix today, it's okay for now. I think i have to fix the low end but i'm too tired now :(

Drums: shitty premier, sample replaced to hell and back
Guitars: LTD Viper 400, OD808 + Mesa Dual Rec + Ashdown 4x12 cab (reamped) + Podfarm
Bass: Musicman stringray DI

I kinda went a step further and tried to overproduce the song, hoping it would help to carry it a bit, as most of the riffs are pretty lame.

Cheers !

music is pretty generic yeah, but mixwise I'm loving it! great job on the drum front, really punchy and cutting through. the only thing would be the vocals (the growls), they sound a bit "hollow" and don't sit too well in the mix. perhaps the vocalist needs to practice his technique some more, haha. the clean vocals were great though, love 'em.

I don't think the problem with the vocals is really the vocalist.
I think it's because it sounds like you're switching between having a centered vocal and 2 vocals panned to either side and then both together.

I think what would help this is to always have a center vocal. and then add the 2 sides for more punch instead of having the sides alone.

But I like lots of master bus compression.. baaaaaaw :erk:

If there is one thing I like more than master bus compression, it's even more master bus compression.

Love the mix, great punch :)
How do you process your bas (non-detailed chain could be interresting to hear) ?
How much GR are you doing on the master buss ?

Hmm, Well first of, the instrument itself was pretty amazing. A genuine musicman stingray with brand new, but cheap-ass strings that were kind of dull.

Then it's into UAD Nigel for distortion, then eq, then UAD la2a, then c4. That's it.

Still doesn't sound the way i want it too though.

Oooh, 3-4 dB GR, no sidechain.

Nice mix. It sounds like you haven't time aligned your drums (kick or snare in particular) after printing. It only really bothers me in the blast parts where there's meant to be kick and snare at the same time where the slamming really bothers me. If you've deliberately slipped things slightly off the grid to make it less robotic that's cool, I just think it never works on blasts, just makes em sound shit.

Yeah, the blast beats are a bit off on purpose, it always bugs me when the transients are 100% on grid and the kick and snare mold together.
