What cd/album/tape (whatever) is the Pride and Joy of your collection. I don't have any vinyl so I'll have to say my Japaneese version of Dream Theater's "Live Scenes from New York" and Eddie's Archive are the highlight of my collection.

Mine would be Machine Head's Burn My Eyes. I know, it's neither especially rare nor very valuable. Well, maybe a bit as I have the digipack edition with a bonus track. But its special value to me is an emotional one. It has always got me through tough times. No matter how tough it would be. Always pulled me through.

the copy of "crawl"by the beyond.
i hadnt heard it for years and my missus spent hours and hours on the internet trying to find it foe me.she eventually found it in a secondhand record shop called second spin somewhere in the states.they charged more for the postage than the album!
the time she spent finding it means i keep it safe.plus the fact that i doubt i'd ever get another one.rare as rocking horse shit.

The original White label version of the 1st nameless Diamond Head album. It was selfproduced and sold via an add in the UK music mag "Sounds". I ordered it in 1980 when it was released. Here is what they say about it on their website:

"They then recorded what was to become their first album release. Like Led Zeppelin's fourth album it had no official title and has been referred to as the 'White Album', or 'Lightning To The Nations'. There were initially copies 1000 pressed, which were in a plain white cover."

Another valuable item in my collection is the original "Avatar" single "City beneath the surface". Later Avatar changed their name into Savatage...

the size of your cd collection greeno, you better take the week off to think about it.

It's not THAT big, or should I say it's not big ENOUGH! I'm sure some one here on the board has a bigger one..... collection that is.

Here are a couple that come to mind, mainly becuase of how I found them.

CD's

1.) Ratt - Ratt e.p. (original press)
I had been wanting to get a copy of this on cd forever but they were going for almost $100 on eBay! One night I'm in Wal-Mart at about 3 in the morning (that's the best time to go, all of the local rednacks are at home passed out) and I'm walking back to the music department, on the way I pass a bin of cheap ($5.00) cd's so I stop to look. You guessed it, found that Ratt disc in the pile! Searched for another half hour for more but no luck! :)

2.) Metallica - Garage Days
This was another one I'd been wanting on cd. I told a couple friends to keep an eye open for a copy, about a year later 2 people found me copies in the same week (plan13 was one person). So there's 2 copies in the collection now. :)

As for vinyl, would not know where to start. The early Pantera lp's, Jag Panzer's "Ample Destruction", the first 2 Griffin albums... just a bunch of old 80's underground stuff.

Its gotta be my copy of Poisons OpenUpAnd Say... Ahh on vinyl with the uncensored cover it's an australian tour pack on coloured vinyl with four swap cardsand lyric inner sleeve. It's in mint condition and even still wrapped in the original celophane (as you can probably guess I am a bit of a collector) Have only seen two other copies one with no swap cards and both at a higher price than I paid but to me it is priceless Also fallen angel 7" with lyric inner this is my favourite song so this one holds a special place in my heart.

Yep have those too. Do you have the "US metal" albums on the shrapnel label?

I don't have any on vinyl but I do have Vol 2 burnt to a cdr. I did it from a friend's vinyl. I'm not big on comps but that is a great one! How many did they do, three?

When it comes to comps, I probably have more punk ones than any others... Let Them eat Jellybeans, Flipside comps, Rodney On The Roq's, Live At CBGB's and so on....

Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King lp. I know it's not rare or anything, but it just happens to be the greatest heavy metal album of all time. And vinyls are the heavy metal format, no doubt about that. :worship:

I have my sights on a very rare piece of metal on a web auction at the moment, I'll inform you if I manage to get it.

Yea I believe there were 3 "Us metal" releases. The first one is the best though. It's got "Players" from Culprit on it.

I was not much into US punk in those day's although I loved and still love the Ramones [I saw them twice, the last time on their farewell tour in Rotterdam] .

I liked the old '77 UK punk, The Damned, Sex Pistols [seen them live], Stranglers, UK Subs, Untertones [they were from Ireland] great stuff and exciting times

You got me wanting to hear that US Metal comp so I pulled it out and it's playing as I write this, great stuff! Players by Culprit is on this one (Vol 2), kinda freaky, it was playing as I read you post. :)

I am more of an American punk guy, nothing against the UK bands I just don't know as much about them.... Baldy and I were talking about this in another thread. Just wish I was old enough to have been into it when it was happening in the mid 70's.

That's one of mine also. I have the original cover to Live Scenes, I got it in a book store, where they didn't pull it off the shelves yet. What's weird, is that it was released on 9/11, and my birthday is 9/11. I was taking the day off for my birthday, because I knew that album was being released that day, but then the towers got hit, I as many people, didn't go anywhere for a few days. I didn't even know that they recalled the original cover for weeks, until my friend told me. Does your Japanese version have the original cover, too?

first Solitude Aeturnus "Into The Depths Of Sorrow" perhaps
the authentic Psychotic Waltz albums
Can you tell me where to find A Social Grace? It's the only one I don't have. All the record stores/labels say it is out of print. :erk:

I would have to say Journey's Dream After Dream vinyl Lp. It's a soundtrack album, and it has some good instrumental work on it. It was in a local record store, and they didn't know how rare it was..it only cost me 3.99!!! Since I had never heard anything off of it, I opened it to listen to it. I think Sony finally released it a few years ago on CD, but mine is the Japenese version that is in Japanese writing, that somehow the record store ended up with it. It was probably someone who reluctantly needed a few bucks, so they had to sell it.

Well, I have a couple that may not be "official releases" but here goes...
Metallica's No Life Til Leather on cdr but the sound is AWESOME
Metallica - For Fans Only - them rehearsing for the Load album and doing the Mercyful Fate songs! Before Garage, Inc!!
Motley Crue - Swine and I used to trade a lot of videos in a yahoo club and this one fan filmed the Maximum Rock show herself and sent us a copy also of her and her boyfriend meeting Sixx. So I guess the reason I like that video is that it is ONE OF A KIND...no other copies are out there and it is digital camera quality.
