Going through Primordial's catalog (and anything else Heathen Crusade related) and I haven't changed my mind about Storm Before Calm I'm afraid to say.

It's hit and miss:

"Fallen to Ruin" is the best song on the album.

"Sons of the Morrigan" and "What Sleeps Within" are good too.

"Suns First Rays" is filler, and "Hosting of the Sidhe" doesn't offer much more.

The rest of the album just doesn't click at all. Boring compositions and vocals (Nemtheanga sounds refrained). "Cast to the Pyre" is just horrible and goes nowhere...ugh.

Glad they redeemed themselves this year.

6/10

I like it far better than The Gathering Wilderness and the people who say this is Primordial's worst should probably find themselves a new crack dealer because they are undoubtedly smoking some really bad shit

It fucking rules , maybe less than the others but still . 8.5/10

I almost bought this today. But decided to hold off till I heard it. Glad I did.

It was my first experience with Primordial and I can definately see some flaws in it but I wouldn't go so far as to call it their worst. I haven't given it a proper spin in a while though so I don't know, my opinion could have changed.

It appeals to me, it just doesn't really have as many stand-out songs as some of the older albums... I mean, I love all the albums, but Gathering... is kinda overrated, it's just another solid album, not an OMGWTFBESTEVER type thing.

I'm surprised Spirit isn't the top. Though I've only heard bits and pieces from A Journey's End and it was mostly while at a friend's house. I guess with it being at the top I should seek it out?

Yep, it's their finest by far. Where "Spirit..." is filled with war spirit and even triumph at times, "A Journey's End" is melancholy and introspective. Every song is amazing, something that I honestly can't say about any other Primordial album. They've never really recorded a bad song but there are cuts on other albums they might as well have left out as far as I'm concerned ("The Soul Must Sleep"...)

All of Erik arguments are valid. Now you can't call a Primordial album their worse. You have to call it their less awesome. Rhetorics, gentlemen.

1. A Journey's End
2. Spirit the Earth Aflame
3. Storm Before Calm
4. Teh Gathering Wilderness
5. Imrama

That is one good list there, my good gentleman

It's interesting because I've been on a Primordial kick as of late, so you'd think I'd be forgiving somewhat, but I still can't see how Storm comes anywhere near AJE, StEA, and TGW (their holy fucken trinity).

If StEA gets a 9.5/10, no way in hell can Storm score higher than 6. You have to put it in THAT perspective, considering Storm has some really weak -> godawful tracks, and that makes it lose points.

TGW >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Storm (didn't even think this was debatable!).

I'd probably say:

1. A Journey's End
2. Spirit the Earth Aflame
3. Storm Before Calm
4. Imrama
5. The Gathering Wilderness
