Recently I've been listening, after some time, to his first record (For You) and I kinda discovered it again. It's an amazing piece which contains really a lot of ideas and inspiration, played with great feeling (note that every instrument is played by Prince himself, who masters them perfectly) and that shows how the artist (no pun ) he was already in a shining composition mood. You can even find (keep in mind that the record is from 1978) some funk rock like song. Anyways I think Prince is one of the greatest musicians in the world, besides just another few..

Not entirely my kind of music but no doubt the guy is talented and creative. However I saw an interview with his father once, along time ago who I believe was a jazz pianist who claimed Prince was using portions of his progressions. The thing I liked most was his stage presence, he has charisma.

old prince is great but honestly For You is pretty much a extremely well made snooze fest. his second album was much better and his third was amazing.

I love prince. One of my all time favorite artists( also George Michael,Charles Mingus,Pink Floyd, Joe Pass, Chick Corea etc).
Emancipation is an INCREDIBLE album.
Buy it.
all of you

I've really been getting into Michael Jackson lately & I've been itching to go back & get into some old pop like Prince & Madonna. I don't know why, but I've always liked a bit of Madonna. With Prince I've just barely heard any of his stuff. I'm only 24, so by the time I really started getting into music Prince was already out of the loop. I also still really need to see Purple Rain.

Price is great...especially purple rain, Sign o' the Times & Dirty Mind. This guy can play so many instruments! I haven't even listened to half his stuff yet.

Michael Jackson...well, he's a great performer but that's all I'll say about him. His music is okish, although Off the Wall is a great album. And don't even bother with Madonna. Not worth checking out.

You should give Stevie Wonder a listen though. This guy has made some amazing music. Innervisions, Songs in the Key of Life, Talking Book...shit, all amesome stuff!

I can see how people could like Prince but jeeeeeeez. All that I've heard has been epicgay. What is the least gay album?

You all cited pretty much the biggest name in today's music. Prince has been already discussed..MJ..he needs no presentation and if Prince is one of the greatest of music MJ is nontheless another one. He's naturally inspired in composing and has a great musical knwoledge beside having studied perfectly and knowing very well a number of instruments. His arrangements are touching..he shares with Prince the musical background too. Stevie Wonder is an icon of the black music..and this says it all.
About Madonna..check this out [ame]http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=E5coRmYYAlY[/ame]

The only one who's missing is Sting

80's Madonna is good pop music and the first four MJ albums are also really good. Prince I think however is in another league. You don't need to see Purple Rain however...unless you want some laughs. You do need to get the album though.

I'm listening to Purple Rain (album) as we speak.

Fuck Michael Jackson being the King of Pop. He NEVER has been. It always was, and always will be, Prince.

80s Madonna is the shit. Fucking awesome, she rules.
