Ever since I have upgraded to 7.3.1 from 6.9.2 on my Imac G5 it seems like everything is slower. why is this? I try to start a NEW session with no plug ins and just do a vocal test, start recording and it has about a minute delay and then goes? And on play back it takes forever as well. Is there a way i can speed us this process. It also says that my buffer needs to come up, and when i have it too the max it still says that? Could it be the RAM of my computer. Should i upgrade to a dual G5?

Yeah, I always get those hang-ups where playback stops and it gives me that "system has held off interrupts for too long" crap, telling me to increase my buffer size. I've got 2 GB of RAM and an AMD Turion64 2.2ghz processor, so this should not be happening, especially when it's like 4 tracks of audio. Basically, I just hate PTLE, although maybe the fact that I'm using an MBOX2 (USB) rather than a firewire interface makes a difference...still though, when I get the cash, it's SONAR time for me

yea, i am using a digi 002 with firewire, im starting to hate it, shit just has to be so damn expensive, where i went too school for recording, all that they taught us on was PT'S. i would like to learn new systems but im just worried alittle bit, cause i already have PT'S.

either stick with PT 6.x or upgrade to an intel mac

G5's have always been problematic

7.3 is more resource intensive than even 7.1

Yeah, I always get those hang-ups where playback stops and it gives me that "system has held off interrupts for too long" crap, telling me to increase my buffer size.

This is the big reason I don't use PTLE. I can't ever record a long section of music without this bug. I too use the Mbox2, and have more than enough machine to handle it.

I suggest checking out Reaper 2. Its cheaper and I know of at least one Sonar user who has switched to it. Several people here are starting to use it.

Mboxes can be troublesome too.

USB interfaces are not worth it.

The 001/002/003 have been rock solid.

i've been using HD at my school, and have honestly been falling in love with it - to the point that i was considering getting an m-box mini solely for the purpose of getting PT LE

now i'm not so sure...

HD is fucking sweet - especially when you have enough i/o's to never need to patch a single piece of outboard gear, and have a d-command to control everything

but yea...i'm not so sure if i want to bother with the side-step from cubase to LE. if nothing else, i might do it for the sake of the extra business that can come with being PT-equipped...it wouldn't take much to recoup the $275 that an m-box mini will cost me

(I'm on PC so take this as you will..)

I had some troubles after upgrading to 7.1 AND the Music Production Toolkit, namely with those "DAE can't keep up.." whatevers and just plain slow behaviour.
I bought a new SATA drive to use as an audio-disk and that just about fixed everything (except crappy mixes).
Lesson: make sure you read and follow those Digidesign compatibility guidelines. :hypno:

Yeah my friend was having problems with his mxbox. Couldn't record without a buffer error. Tried changing the buffer with no results. Got new ram, got a external firewire drive, changed from media center to XP and still was having problems. Then found out that its the chipset in his gateway computer. How crappy is that? Basically he plugs his mbox into a usb hub to record but if he wants to hear playback hes gotta plug in the mbox to his computer. Not a good compromise but its working.

I have PT LE, and the the first Gen USB Mbox (I actually got mine used at the time, and it came with PT 5, so I know its an old one). And I can run all 32 tracks, with at least 1-4 plug ins on each track, and at least 5 busses with plugins on those as well, and my computer sings on it. Every now and then I have that increase hardware buffer message, but not very often. My system is 2 GB Corsair XMS memory, ASUS board, Socket 939 Processor Dual Core Opteron 165, overclocked and running at 2.6 Ghz on each core, air cooling (I have a water cooler just sitting there waiting for me to find time to install it). So I don't think your having issues with the USB Mbox; but possibly chipset issues, I would go to digidesigns website and look at known incompatability issues. Protools seems to have issues with certain chipsets, and certain processors. Get CPU-ID if your not sure of your internal components.

I haven't had to many issues with the mbox yet but who knows. I am pretty convinced that there isn't software out that ins't buggy on mac.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

oh man..... yeah, 2012 is right... NOT TRUE my friend. but there's no accounting for user error.

PTLE 7.3 is resource hog, programmed by people who really don't know how to program a dekstop application.
The windows version its pretty lame because If you notice there are button combinations that in a common windows application works, on PTLE (on a windows system) they're not.
The system freezes and put that shitty windows out ("DAE can't keep up..") while you maybe have a 2gb or more ram and have an external drive to record to.
Anyway besides that I uninstall the 7.3.1 and switched back to the 7.1 that is great and works fine on my systems.
