Producers/recording engineers

Is it true that most producers/engineers play guitar for fun or they are actually fluently good at it?

Is there any that you know of that don't play guitar?

I couldn't imagine someone being a producer/engineer without knowledge of some sort of common band instrument (Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboards).
