Protest The Hero - Fortress

I'd like them a hell of a lot more if it weren't for two things...

a.) the whiney emo vocals

b.) the Gildenlow far left politics. God damn hippies :)

When you mix whiney emo vocals with hippy far left politics... the overall feeling of the songs just becomes unbarable for me.

He's got a good voice and i can't really detect any pitch problems or any instances when the key signature of the song is at odds with what notes he is singing.

Well apparently i'm not the only one who thinks he's out of key... :p

LOL Well said Michael. Well said. haha

Late to the party on this one.

Wow. Just... wow. I've only listened to this once. However, a single spin quickly reveals just how impressive this disc is. I've never heard anything so scattered, yet so melodic. The musicianship is superb and the vocals work perfectly. This kind of reminds me of Incubus' S.C.I.E.N.C.E., if the kids from Incubus had consumed near lethal quantities of Crystal Meth prior to the recording.

Hah. Glad you like it. Its a great disc. You'll definitely want to check out their first one as well. Its debatable which is better. I like Fortress more.

Oh and Deron... my cat was just attacking your Conan image.

I STILL don't see anything topping this for album of the year, its not even close.

For those complaining about the vocals, check out the instrumental version off iTunes, the musicianship is top notch here.

I remember saying that it reminded me of S.C.I.E.N.C.E. on steroids when it first came out and my band was going crazy over it. Im glad Im not alone with that comparison. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is probably one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time.

But speaking more about Protest the Hero--I actually really liked this disc when it came out, but you kinda get sick of it when everyday its played during breaks at practice. Otherwise I would probably still like it. I wasn't really introduced to Protest the Hero until Fortress came out so I've slowly been getting around to a song here and there from Kezia.

S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Is a brilliant disc. I was very disappointed by the drastic style shift on the follow up. Anyone whose never checked out S.C.I.E.N.C.E. should really considering do so. It infuses a myriad of styles and never repeats itself.

I agree that Fortress is a great disc, but I grew very tired of it during a short time. It's like one of those epic films that blew you away, but you can't bare sitting through more than twice. (shrugs)
