I just wanted to know.... is this guy real or what?!?! Damn.... If it is a guy, and not a program such as Reason or something like it....this guy is definitly crazy. And for those who have seen them live, how does he play live? Is it the same???

Yeah, he's pretty damn good.

Now, the real question is...is Dave Suzuki for real? Haley's stuff still sounds doable...there's a human element to his fills and styles. Suzuki's work on Dechristianize sounds like it's all triggered and looped. True?

I agree man, Suzuki is no WAY that fast! Have you seen the guy drum for The Berzerker? He uses triggers purely to make different sounds for the drums, but he is really playing that fast. In-fucking-sane.

But to the question, yes, the Psycroptic drummer is fucking apeshit.

Tomas Corn, Proscriptor, and Tony Laureano(ex-NILE) are probably the fastest, and most creative drummers in metal I've heard.

And to note about triggers, they don't increase how fast a bass hit goes for example, it just makes every hit sound even no matter how hard its touched. This just makes everything sound more even and consistent but not faster.

Triggers mask technique, allowing a computer to remove any aspects of sloppiness or soft hits. I'd rather play a double bass groove slow and feel every hit in my legs than blindly spasm my way through rolls and turn them into loud uniform clicks using a computer.

Unless, of course, that's the desired effect.

I'd say triggers mask a certain level of finesse, but when you're hitting 128th notes on double bass at 240bpm, ehhh, I'm forgiving. :D

I doubt it, judging just from seeing him warm up on guitar in concert, he was playing some shit that shouldn't be possible. He is truly a virtuoso, no doubt in my mind whatsoever. :)

Dave Haley is the real deal; I saw them live last year and the guy didn't even break a sweat. He made it look easy. Which was mind boggling. His bassdrums were triggered-up to give it a clear punch as well, but it was still amazing.

I heard that the drums on Dechristianize were sped-up after they were recorded....or something...

HA! I'm seeing Psycroptic twice next month. That should make up for my lack of being American and seeing The Chasm, Incantation and Arsis...

Suzuki was triggered, because Morrisound wouldn't pay for his kit to be shipped to the studio(or so I read in an interview), and the kit they have is set up that every piece is triggered. Sped-up, I don't know. He used to do live drums for VR before they found a drummer.

Haley really kicks my ass. Awesome fills, very creative, and yet still very tasteful. However, I think his blastbeating could sound a little more full-bodied.

Triggers are apparently just as hard to use as normal drums, since you have to get the timing right.

Does he use triggers in-studio? I heard he only uses them live or something...so that could explain why the double bass sucks live.

Flo tends to be shit-sloppy live, just like everyone in Cryptopsy, but I've seen enough of his playing to say that normally he's really that fast. I saw something from one of those music showcase things, some drummer expo thing, with him just going off doing hyperblasts and doublebass rolls with no triggers. I peed a little.
