I already posted the same thing on the Joey Sturgis forum, but as this one has a kind of different public, I'd be interrested to have your opinion as well.

I don't use any of these tools to a great extend. I used to have Pro Tools 8 M-Powered, but sold it with my old Fast Track, and I never used Elastic Audio in a serious way. I own Cubase 5, but I only use Audio Warp in certain situations, for minor changes. Reaper Elastique seems to be one of those time stretching algorithms I never tried.

The exact question should be "which of these algorithms is the best to cope with the possible artifacts / leaves the least". I use those mainly on DIs.

I'm just pretty curious, as I'm pretty much a fan of slip editing and RARELY time stretch anything... Is any of those any better than the other?

That would be great. To make it simple, I'm just looking to know which one gives the best results without audible or too notable colouring / degrading of the original track. Not that it would really change my workflow but this is a question that stayed into my head for weeks, and I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

Elastic audio can stretch a scream to about 10 times of its original length (sometimes even much more) without artifacts.

here's a nice video:

cubase starts sounding shit after you tried stretching somehing to 1.5 the length or something....
haven't tried it in cubase6 to be fair, but back when I used to work in Cubase the Audio Warp feature was practically useless

For guitar DIs Audio Warp gives pretty good results if plucked algorithm is used with realtime time stretching (slight, about several %, corrections), MPEX works worse soundwise and is very time consuming (there is choice when flatten is used).

If you´re on Reaper, try the different algos because each one suits a different task (and it makes a world of difference). I believe the Soloist will give better result for DI.

This thing about elastic audio makes me regret having sold my PT8 M-Powered. If I had known PT9 would have allowed ASIO interfaces to be used, I would have waited a bit then paid the upgrade... I'm kinda sad now. From what I hear over here, Elastic Audio seems much better :/
