I used to work in downtown chicago. I would get off the train and there would be this homeless guy standing on the curb playing a harmonica with a dog sitting next to him. Chicago winter seperates the beggers from the homeless. So he's standing there and every morning these suburban bitches would bring warm food (you could see steam) for the dog.
I have to wonder, being from the Chicago area and working on the south side myself, what keeps homeless people in Chicago in the winter? Why not just hop a box car and head to Florida around October? What the hell's holding them here? It's not like they have to go to work or spend time with their families. I don't get it. No way I would stay up here without a home.
And, have you noticed that the amount of homeless people here has gotten MUCH higher recently? It's heartbreaking to see so many people living in the street.
