autolux were pretty cool, like a very loud my bloody valentine v. mono type of band. might snag an album, but will probably get some failure first.

queens were awesome but plagued by lousy sound. no bass whatsoever. they did a kickass version of no one knows with a nice quiet breakdown toward the middle, and go with the flow was pretty outstanding. not a lot of new stuff, but that's okay because i wanted to hear the older stuff anyhow. joey castillo is the fucking man, that dude is becoming more and more of my favorite drummer every day. nothing fancy, just solid as a rock.

NIN fucking ruled, the highlight being terrible lie (trent totally flipped at the end and it was pretty amazing) and SUCK. THEY PLAYED SUUUUUUUUUUUCK i couldn't believe it. of course nobody knew what the fuck song it was because most of the idiots there were trend hopping FAGS that only cheered to the hit songs. fuck'em.

how'd that wannabe-goth crowd react to Queens' awesomeness?
josh homme talked shit to them several times, it was hysterical. there were a lot of people that dug on them though, i was sorta surprised.

most NIN fans are like woe is me life is pain types. i mean it makes sense given reznor's penchant for ridiculously depressive lyrics, but shit i always dug the music and could care less about the lyrics, just like exactly 100% of the other bands i enjoy. :dopey:

lyrics are fun sometimes. how 'bout Slough Feg? cam ahhhhhhhn!

NIN, however, I don't like. only heard a full album once and it was on a horrible soundsystem, so that could explain it.

i recommend broken to any metal dude because it's methull as fukk. i also recommend the downward spiral because it's like one of the best albums in history.

you want some samples? of if you don't care i can go back to watching the people v. larry flynt. :loco:

oh and yeah, lyrics are fun a lot of the time. slough feg rules for that.

mm.. pornography.

yea, samples would do nicely. i might be turned off of it by the whole depressing angle..something about that just isn't workin for me lately.

edit: also, music can be dark and depressing without presenting the songwriter(s) as whiney, "i'm so tortured/fucked up", teen-angst faggoth fuckwads! i much prefer that kind!

totally agree man.

and not like all his lyrics are wacky depressive, they just have a tendency to lean in that direction. i find him to be a pretty good lyricist, i just can't take him extremely seriously all the time.

i'll upload a few tracks later tonight, or better yet make like a mix cd for ye and... upload that. :loco:

gotta keep in mind, i guess, that there are people out there who are actually as depressed as he writes his lyrics and identify them and they may be theraputic for these people in some way, so cheers to him for that! i just find music that accompanies such lyrics to generally be stale and lifeless, which isn't something i'm usually looking for in music. this is what's attracted me to stoner stuff lately.. seems so much more passionate and alive than a lot of metal and stuff like that. just phases, i know, but meh.

That explains why I find some instrumental music, especially post-rock, to be more depressing than just about anything in my collection, because it doesn't require lyrics to project those feelings...of course I have great appreciation for people who write depressing lyrics almost entirely free of cliches and/or self-pity, like Jonas Renkse and Steven Wilson...
