Question about logo design

[A Dying Breed]

My band needs a logo. We found some guys that do good shit, but they want you to buy a "temporal right of usage" for any merch, or you can buy the copyright, but you still have to credit them apparently.

Is this typical?

Also, if anyone can recommend anybody who does good work, I'd like to hear from them.
