How much does your bank or financial institution of choice sling you for an international transaction?

The reason I ask is because I'm thinking about limping into the 21st century and getting a debit card (specifically a "MultiAccess" card that works just like a Visa only without the hassle of going into debt) and I'd like to know what nasty surprises I'm in for once I start using the thing.

I've got a Visa credit card, and I can't recall any international charges at all. At least the one time I've ordered something from Amazon. But I've bought one or two things from other overseas places, and it didn't make a difference.

Commonwealth bank will charge you about a 1.5% FX fee. Cheap, easy, kick arse!

I bought a submarine from the US navy the other day on my credit card, and got charged fuck all in the way of fees.

I bought nuclear weapons from the US twenty years ago and now they're saying I've got weapons of mass destruction that should be destroyed. Not sure what the go is there.

That tends to happen with the US government, Spiff. It's a common problem really. Not much you can do about it. Just bury them in Syria or something.

Come on Spiff, as if the US are going to do anything anyway! Just sit tight, enjoy yourself, and dont worry about a thing, last I heard they were only worried about freeing the oppressed and bringing democracy to all, so they wont be going after you, just ask South Korea.
