This goes out to anyone that sat in the seats for all or most of the bands, preferably up high (just cause I think it would be a little easier to determine)... from someone that stands on the floor all the time it's hard to tell which bands get the best response from the crowd, have the best crowd sing-alongs, etc., since everyone around you is yelling... so from the top of the venue perspective, which bands do you think had the loudest crowd response? any specific songs get a louder than average singalong? just curious. thanks.

Thats a great question longshot9. By the way i was sitting just off the floor by one of the cameras for EPICA and the floor was going crazy and ALOT of the seats stood up after each EPICA song, me included. They were really great, maybe the 2nd best after JORN. I was maybe in the 3rd row floor for JORN.

...i'm sorry, this doesn't really answer your question...but i cannot sit down anymore at these shows...i start to get sleepy...(i sat for jorn and evergrey, next year i need to pace myself better and wear more comfy shoes and be able to stand for all the bands)...something about sitting and the lights and my eyes just staring in one area...

Freak kitchen got a huge pop. Vision Divine, Pyramaze and Thunderstone got solid feedback. Zero Hour had a great deal of people sleeping.

I was down on the fence for Pyramaze, Savage Circus, Zero Hour, Vision Divine, Thunderstone, and EPICA :headbang: . my parents, however, were sitting just off to the right (looking from the stage view) towards the top. they said the biggest support seemed to be for EPICA, as well as Vision Divine and Thunderstone. they also said that pyramaze got a good amount of the stands cheering, but not standing ad EPICA and VD did.

Hmmmmmmm, being down on the floor most of the night and being there when the spontaneous PYRAMAZE chant broke out i would have to say Pyramaze got the best response.

Intersting. I wouldn't have guessed that those would be the big responses.

Cool though.

I was on the floor. You couldn't pay me to sit.

I couldn't have said better myself brotha. Nugs forever!

The only bands I skipped were Leatherwolf and Thunderstone for some drink/chatting action. I also sat down for Freak Kitchen. I figured I'd at least sit with Allison for one of the bands. I really wanted to get out of my seat for them though... they rocked.

Traditionally, there's one band I'll sit for. Usually just so I can spend time with some of the more tired people I bring with. I always feel this inner rage growing in me... need to jump around and go F'N Nuts :headbang:

I mean come on... this is Prog Power. 'Tis the season. The most wonderful time of the year.

Well, I'll take money to sit :p

I was on the front fence all of friday. I would say the best "sing-a-long" response was for Mercenary - 11 Dreams, what they closed with. The best overall crowd attention was FK. The best chanting was with Pyramaze.

Actually, thinking back, Pyramaze - What Lies Beyond was probably up there with the 11 Dreams song. Both are so powerful, and have great lyrics to sing with! My experience with these may be bias however, because I was basically in a trance during both Pyramaze and Mercenary ;) lol

EDIT: OMG, i just re-read the title of this thread. Please excuse my incompetence, lol

I was in the seats the whole weekend...

I would say from my perspective it was probably Epica, Freak Kitchen, Jorn/Evergrey had the most "going on" with the crowd. Just my view. VD and Thunderstone were also very strong. Mercenary was medium, but a positive medium and Zero Hour was VERY LOW. Pyramaze was strong, but not over bearing.

I tend to watch the seats more than most and if you removed the floor folks.... Freak Kitchen *dominated*. Hell, there were more people singing the dildo chorus than any specific song from any group the entire festival. I saw more teeth during that set from people smiling & laughing than I thought possible.

I had the best time on the floor with everyone. I worried beforehand that I wouldn't be able to make it, but I never watched a performance sitting. I daresay being with the crowd and chatting with people in between sets made it all the better :)

And here's how you do it...

I'll have to submit this one to Young Guitar Player in Japan.

I sense FK will headline the Preparty in 2007. :)

Hah! Fookin' A! :headbang: I did notice Epica rise in the poll, but last I looked, FK was still in the lead there too. It only goes to show that music doesn't have to be insanely serious ALL the time to be enjoyable! Even though I'm an extreme fanboy, I can OBJECTIVELY say that was probably the most "fun" set of all the Prog Power fests, they really know how to keep the crowd involved, and from what I've heard, they had a blast in Atlanta and really enjoyed themselves with the fans, the fest, and everything about it.
Hope they get consideration for a return, be it the Pre-Party, or some loophole in the no return clause for the fest itself. :heh:
:worship: You rule for taking a chance to bring them over :worship:

I think it was a good move! :)

LOL! Great pic! I'm hoping IA gets around to re-releasing the first instructional vid he did. I think dildo play is covered, as well as cell phones, hose clips, etc.

You sat for JORN? You bad bad girl!!! An your one of the prettiest girls on this fourm, i would have liked to have seen you "down there" :loco:

I make a point to watch the crowd and gauge how well a band is going over, whether I personally like them or not. I didn't watch enough of FK to comment, though I'm sure they went over big. Over the entire weekend here's how it thought all the bands did.

Theocracy- Medium response. I guess most people, like myself, weren't familiar with them.

Circus Maximus- Standing Ovation. Not a band I really care for, but they had everyone on their feet at the end of their set.

Leatherwolf- Strong response. Sustained enthusiastic applause.

Circle II Circle- Maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of a standing ovation. Would have probably gotten more with more 'Tage songs, or at least a different closer.

Pyramaze- Very strong. Wasn't expecting a lot, but I like them more after their set than before. It seemed they grabbed the audience attention with the opening violin intro and never let it go. The guy next to me said "That'll be a hard act to follow."

Savage Circus- Strong sustained applause. The lyric sheets probably cost them some points, but the whole encore/curtain episode probably lost them their momentum at the finish.

Freak Kitchen- I'm definately not "An extreme fanboy." However, I'd certainly have to concede the Friday WOW factor to FK. Go figure...

Mercenary- Strong sustained applause. I was expecting Mercenary to blow everyone away, and they were my most anticipated band of the night. The reaction didn't bear that out. Maybe the mix wasn't quite right, but I expected a bigger response. The stage dive had the audience going wild though.

Evergrey- Probably a 3/4 house ovation. I think all the extra stuff went over very well. I expected more of the string quartet, and I thought there was a group feeling of "That's it?" when they left the stage.

Zero Hour- Medium to strong response. I didn't know a thing about this band prior to their set. No one was "sleeping"

Vision Divine- WOW factor for the crowd on Saturday. Not a huge fan, though I like them okay, but I thought their live show floored the audience. My friends bought VD CD's during the intermission.

Thunderstone- Strong sustained applause. Better reaction than I thought they'd get because:
A) They were the most "generic" europower band of the fest. Which is not a bad thing to me, as I like that style.
B) They followed Vision Divine. I expected somewhat of a repeat of the post Pagan's Mind slump that Secret Sphere suffered.
They held their own though.

Epica- Blew the crowd away then blew their own applause. The audience was poised to give them a standing ovation. about 1/4 of the house was standing. Another 1/4 were on the edge or partially out of their seats. The other 1/2 I expect would have followed. The outro caused enough confusion that the second group relaxed back into their chairs expecting an encore and all the momentum was lost. Heh.

Jorn- Up and down. Started strong and lost a lot of momentum in the middle of his set. There was a pretty steady stream of people heading for the exits at the midway point. To be fair, that usually happens to the last band on Sat. Also it should be noted that less people left than during Statovarius last year. Whether that's because of Jorn or the expected all-star cast at the end... who can say? I suspect the latter. Although it was painful for me to sit through, Jorn did get some momentum back with the retro set near the end, which the audience as a whole seemed to like.
