So for the first time, I had to be reimbursed for a ticket purchase (the James LaBrie tour cancellation being the cause). I noticed that I just got my refund, but instead of the original $36 paid for the ticket ($30 + $6 fee), I only received $30. Is this a common/fair/legal practice? If I am getting a refund, shouldn't I get the full $36?

I don't want to sound naive or like I don't know jack - I just never had to get a concert refund before and don't know exactly how they do it.

Any thoughts? I want to make sure I don't sound like an idiot by sending them an email and asking where my other $6 went.

This happened to me when (don't laugh but you probably will) Lordi cancelled their tour that would've followed their Ozzfest appearance. Same thing happened to me there. Actually I think the same thing happened for King Diamond as well. So yeah, unfortunately that seems pretty common. It's absolutely shitty as hell, but it is what it is.

So I can basically open a business offering a service, and when it turns out the service is non-existent for whatever reason, I have the right of only refunding part of the money to those customers who paid for it in advance?

How brilliant.

Again, it's absolutely shitty. I'm guessing it has to do with the ticket service losing money due to the cancellation since it isn't their fault the tour didn't get cancelled. However, it is absolutely greedy that they do it as it is essentially stealing in my opinion.

It's a common practice. You get back the face value of the ticket. You're not reimbursed for any service fees tagged on by the ticket distributor. I think it's in the fine print when you make the purchase. You know, all the stuff nobody reads :p

I'd argue that this "convenience fee" isn't very convenient at all for the consumer, but that's another story.

same thing with any ticket sellers like TM, livenation or even stubhub. If you bought teh ticket with 60 or 90 days depending on your CC company you can file a chargeback to get the entire amount. But otherwise you are out of luck.

Thats why ticket sellers make so much money. Even if a concert cancels they still keep all the fees so its a no loss situation. TM even has the nerve to hold refunds for up to 60 days if a concert is canceled.

stubhub (tm scalping partner) is even better that charge massive fees and guarantee only that you will have the opportunity to pck up a ticket before showtime. Thats all the guarantee and if that doesn't happen they still keep their fee. haha crooked!

Luckily I'm getting my full refund including fees for the LaBrie show cancellation. I bought my ticket directly from the venue's website though and not from EnterTheVault.

ENTERTHEVAULT is still a great option for ticket purchases. I buy from them all the time. Their fees are much lower than Ticketbastard and the ticket prices are usually lower too. It's not the ticketing agent's fault that these shows have been cancelled so I understand why they are retaining the service fees. They have to pay people too. Just sayin'........

That does suck, although I can understand why they keep the fees. They do pay for all of those credit card transactions, and etc. It's shitty but what can you do...
