How would it on average and typically cost to have my car painted entirely black? Including painting over scratches so you can't see them and shit. Is that glossing expensive?

i dont know how it is in the US...(will probable be alot cheaper) but here in the netherlands its around 2000euro. (if you want to have a good painted car)

you can also do it yourself if you have a garage :p

edit: look for a customshop in your area, they can provide good info

Maaco has their "presidential" paint job on sale for $199.00 but I'm sure they ding the shit out of you for priming, filling, and stuff like that. Might look into them for a cheaper solution than a custom body shop.

ok why is this crap so expensive around here :|
...not that i care about painting my car but still..

if we paint our car completely we need to change the papers of the cars and those cost around 75euro extra....
its almost useless to paint your car here, you'll be better of buying a new car

a friend of mine had a car and the heater broke..instead of fixing it, he bought a new car hahaha

my mothers co-worker got her Honda painted black for like $700 but it fluctuates a lot. I would love to have a nice black paint job on my Accord...

Just do it like a Mexican.

I had a neighbour who painted his shitty, near-broken down camaro a disgusting mat blue that I swear to god looked like he did it with a can of house paint.

It's a 97 Saturn SL. I was actually considering Maaco.

It has a few scratches on it, not too many although some of them are a bit bad. I'd have to get the bumpers painted. If 200 is the base figure that's not too bad...I'm getting $900 for income tax I'm hoping not to go much over $350

I don't know anything about car painting, but maybe it would be possible for them to just touch up the paint where the scratches are? Do that plus the bumpers might be significantly cheaper.

I had to have a front quarter panel painted once because I replaced a dented one, and I seem to recall that alone being around $100+

Black is hardest color to get to look good, If you think your going to get a decent black paint job from maaco for cheap you might as well just save your money because it ain't gonna happen. Cheap black paint job + Texas sun = a job that will peel off quicker than a leper's skin on a windy day. For a good base coat/clear coat job that won't fall off the first time you hit it with the high pressure wand at the car wash you'd be looking at 1500 minimum at a reputable body shop. Not to mention it's a Saturn with composite panels so a flex agent is needed as well.

ok john i know you hang out with lots of black guys, but dont fall into the same trap of spending more on cosmetics than the car is worth.

Yea, Maaco is shit.

Stay the fuck away from Maaco. They half-ass their shit like crazy. It depends from car to car but I have seen Maaco not sand, not prime, not mask and miss the little details.

For a Gloss-Black paint job, the best is to get quotes from different paint shops in your area. Good paint jobs can range anywhere from $1,000 to $4,000 for a single tone paint job. Many factors have to be considered when dealing with painting a car, mainly labor and materials. Some places my prime with multiple coats while some places may prime with only one coat. Some places use more expensive primer while others use cheaper primer. Some places may only give you two coats of paint and one coat of gloss while others may give you four coats of paint and two coats of gloss.

Shop around but don't expect it to be cheap for a good quality paint job.

How difficult is it to buy these paints and clearcoats and do it yourself? Not necessarily for an entire car because that takes masking and stuff to protect parts but what if you just wanted to do a removable part like a bumper or yada yada

edit: oh I guess when I see people painting cars they have air compressors and spray guns it already sounds like too much effort my interest is lost

Yea like you said, you need a spray gun. You can go out and purchase a spray gun, air compressor and a paint booth but again, it'll cost you for quality shit. Also, it's not like painting a wall; you have to practice to be able to have your paint job not look like shit.

Basically, you pull your car in the paint booth, sand it down, prime it (two coats is optimal I believe), paint it (x coats) and top it off with gloss and protective coating. These different types of paints you spray should be sprayed in different spray guns or thoroughly clean your one gun, but it's not suggested. Also, you need the apparel including air ventilation mask and heavy duty gloves along with a proper air ventilation system with your paint booth.

So yea....taking it in somewhere is less expensive than doing it yourself but if you want to learn how to paint cars for a hobby or a trade, you have to have some start-up capital.

I was quoted $500 for my truck to be repainted black (and yes by an actually autobody/painter) with labor and sanding work included. They have to actually sand you car down and not just paint over it.
