I don't know how else to describe it other than QUIRKY. Any (sub)genre is acceptable. Some bands that would fit in would be:

Faith No More
Big Business
Modest Mouse
Depressive Age
System of A Down
Freak Kitchen
Mr. Bungle
Primus
Keelhaul
Kyuss
Queens of The Stone Age

Basically, bands that know how to have fun. Bands that rock without taking themselves so damn seriously all the time. *shrug* Anyone comprende?

mine were gonna be

Incredible String Band (quirkiest of all for sure!)
Dr. Strangely Strange
Comus
Flower Travellin' Band

but that ugly fag Ellestin stole one of em!

edit: a couple of one-off songs by not-so-generally-quirky bands -
Tir na Nog - Aberdeen Angus
COB - Bones

I guess I'll have to check out this Incredible String Band then, aye?!

Comus is aiming at the quirkiness I'm looking for at times, but not The Flower Travellin Band. And c'mon Matt, you know I am familiar with them 2 fuggin; bands. :tickled:

Les Claypool (all projects except Blind Illusion, obviously)
Buckethead
Frank Zappa (for the most part)

All are extremely fun and completely fucking out there.

Secret Chiefs 3 is the project of Trey Spruance from Mr Bungle (and 1 FNM album) and features a lot of other Bungle dudes on the various albums. it of course covers every genre under the sun, but it seems to focus mostly on blending surf, middle eastern/indian, western/soundtrack, into its own sound. some metal/grind type stuff, but its miles below the rest of the music. 99% no vocals.

http://www.myspace.com/secretchiefs3 has 5 songs. its difficult to cover the spectrum of a band like this, but it gives you a good idea of whats going on.

Protest The Hero. I just listened to them recently, and the first thing I thought was that they seemed pretty damned quirky. I'm not sure if I like them or not .. leaning toward the not side.
