o.k. here is another gem I picked up! although it wasn't the same type of surprise as montrose.I actually had this on cassette.but after not hearing it for years except for the "man on the silver mountain" played on classic rock radio,i really dug the album! dio was in top form even then and the guitar work of mr.blackmore post the 1st deep purple era was still great indeed.black sheep of the family and snake charmer both tunes are among my faves.

Rainbow is the business! Any discerning metal head who doesn't have Rainbow Rising, well, should. Definately a top 10 favorite of mine, all time. All the Dio era Rainbow stuff is killer, and frankly the Joe Lynn Turner stuff is pretty damned good too. I don't have Straight Between the Eyes anymore, for whatever reason, but it is an album I pick up and put down at the record store often. Eventually, when there is something else I don't need more, I'll get it again.
I think I'll put Rising in right now.

I was waiting for this one to come. Rainbow has a special site in my heart since the first CD I ever bought was "Straight Between the Eyes", and for years was the most sought band in my list.

I almost got kicked off HMV in Toronto when I found "Down To Earth" on CD and gave a huge yell inside the store. That day I completed (at the time) my Rainbow collection, so I guess I was entitled to scream :D

My Rainbow list
  1. "Rising"
  2. "Long Live Rock'N'Roll"
  3. "Stranger In Us All"
  4. "Rainbow"
  5. "Down To Earth"
  6. "Difficult To Cure"
  7. "Bent Out Of Shape"
  8. "Straight Between The Eyes"
And of course "On Stage" and "Finyl Vinyl" (which is fun because I never had it on vinyl :p )

Rainbow will always be on the top ten bands to must have on a collection.

NP: Rainbow - Long Live Rock'N'Roll

my list :
1."Rising"
2."Long Live Rock'N'Roll"
3."Difficult To Cure"
4."Rainbow"
5."Bent Out Of Shape"
6."Straight Between The Eyes"
7."Down To Earth"
8."Stranger In Us All"

but n°1 in my heart is "On Stage" one of the best live albums ever !!!! :headbang:

Ah yes, Rainbow. Absolutely fantastic music (even the Joleen Turner era). I especially liked the Dio albums and Down to Earth with Graham Bonnet on vocals. My fave Joleen album is Difficult to Cure. They still had the old "edge" on that album, before they started commercializing a little (but still kicked ass). Can't go wrong with Rainbow!

This is my favorite Rainbow album. Its seems to be a somewhat forgotten album. I think its better than "On Stage" for 2 important reasons.

It has a superior [read heavier production]
and it has a better song selection including "Stargazer".

Here is the track list:

Disc 1
1.Kill the king
2.Mistreated
3.Sixteenth century Greensleeves
4.Catch the rainbow

Disc 2
1.Man on the silver mountain
2.Stargazer
3.Still I'm sad
4.Do you close your eyes

After this album my favorites are:

My Rainbow list

1. "Rising"
2. "Long Live Rock'N'Roll"
3. "On Stage"
4. "Rainbow"

Sweet tracklist but it still lacks "Gates of Babylon" :D :worship:

Dio played it at festivals last year! :headbang:

I heard they're also playing "Tarot Woman" on the current tour...

I have a bootleg called "Farewell to Dio" that's dated 10/20/77 in Munich and has the same setlist. Absoultely kick ass sound quality & performance; arguably better than their studio recordings. Suspect that it's the the same recording as the one you described.
