Rallying the troops (PLAGARIST ABUSE TIME)

I appreciate the differences however I see a certain irony in this thread as it relates to you're "music belongs to the ethos once you create it" philosophy Gareth. On another note, your vocals sound great.

This and...copyright the whole album before you release it.

This is a very common misconception of how copyright works. Copyright exists the moment a creative work is set down in a fixed form. Or to put it another way: As soon as you recorded it, the copyright was yours.

Proving that you set yours down before they recorded theirs is the hard part. The whole point about mailing off the work is to obtain an undisputable date of provenance. But the copyright always existed.

yeah I know. I was referring to having the worked legally documented with a date. It can in small cases allow you to walk right up to a judge with your documentation and win a case without the need to spending money on a lawyer or worrying about proving the date of inception.

It just makes life easier and cheaper in the long run.

They just commented back on my post on Facebook:

We Stand Redeemed: We are getting rid of our song we are sorry that this happened, and we respect all of your guys opinions, we thank you for pointing this out and we will make sure that it dosent happen again.

They are very alike, but then they both sound a fair bit like Hand Of Doom by Carnal Forge and that came out 10 years ago!

Hehe. The brigde riff from 0:35 sound exactly the same as the intro of Lost Horizon's Denial of Fate:

Now someone should find a plagiated riff from this song to continue the chain... we should make a forum game out of it. :)

Aye, but there's a key fundamental difference there. Slice The Cake belongs to everyone, yes, I do believe that, but not to the point where taking what is fundamentally the same track, sticking a new name on it and changing a few notes and calling it your own is acceptable.

Cosmic ownership Vs Having nothing of your own to say with your music and resorting to taking another band's self-expression as your own.

Cheers for the compliment too :)

Metal has just come to a point where it all sounds like itself. I was having a convo with a buddy of mine on the subject this week. Im completely bored with alot of the metal out there. He played some death metal while I was there and changed the cd 3 times. I didnt even noticed it changed at all. All three bands were basically copies of another. Screaming, doublebass, blastbeats, fast stupid sounding riffs= Metal.
Doesnt it get old??? Sure does for me. Metal has hit a brick wall in recent years. 10 million bands using the same formulas to make "music". I just cant take it anymore. Thats why Ive only been listening to older stuff. Its almost like now that if a band uses blastbeats, fast doublebass and screams...they are awesome and are treated as such for no good reason. Creativity barely exists anymore. I hate it.
I dont think they ripped you off dudes, more like theres just nowhere to go anymore in the current direction. Everyones using the same sounds to "create" music. Metal has become such a parody of itself.

I dont mean to offend anyone who loves the "every band sounds the same" metal. I just prefer diversity.

im sorry to anyone who disagrees, but this is literally note for note, regardlesss of whether you like the genre or think it all "sounds the same". i have listened to Squander about 8 million times by now, and it is the same song structure, riffs and drums. Balls to these guys, BALLS I SAY!

your just looking at the popular hardcore/technical death metal aspect of metal, and yes I agree, they all sound the same. At least I know if i setup on a 6 CD change Slipknot, Trivium, Evergrey, Mercenary, KSE and Into Eternity (a few of my favorite bands) that each band sounds nothing like the other and the only thing they have in common is a more aggressive sounding music, but the similarities stop there. Each band has a very different atmosphere and personality to them. You just have to look in the right place, but for the most part, I am pretty disgusted with most music these days anyway, not just metal. It seems recently everyone is trying to be a carbon clone of the most recent successful thing and no one wants to take risks on being different.

And even though you may think that all the metal bands these days sound the same, the clip posted in this thread was a blatant ripoff.

Youre certainly right, the 'copy eachother' thing runs rampant in just about every genre of music. :(

I didnt listen to the songs in question until JUST NOW. When I first posted, I only tried the links provided to hear 'their version' and both didnt work. I just noticed that he posted the youtube link..so yeah, Im a dumbass.
ANYWAY, I checked out both songs, and YES they fucking ripped your song guys!! WTF!!!!!!! Id be pissed too! I did notice one MAJOR difference though. Slice The Cake's Mix sounds SOOOOOO much better! Fuckin killer.

And as well as that, did they really think taking an album about the ills of society, the death of art, basically all about how people have the potential to be utterly shit and how they quite often live up to it and turning it into something about spreading "God's grace and mercy" would work?
Dam Christians.
