just cause... you know...

Today, March 19th 2007, is the 25th anniversary Randy Rhoads' death. Randy was killed in a horrible airplane accident. Please remember him today and everything he did for Heavy Metal and for guitarists everywhere. He was best known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne. You can hear Randy on "Blizzard Of Ozz"(1980), "Diary Of A Madman"(1981), and of course on Ozzy's homage to Randy, "Randy Rhoads Tribute"(1987). Before he worked with Ozzy, Randy co-founded Quiet Riot, releasing two albums. In the past 25 years, Randy's influence on guitar and music has been steadfast and unwavering. He was 25 years old when he died and would be 50 now.

Randall William Rhoads
(December 6, 1956 - March 19, 1982)

You gus beat me to this. Randy was one of my heroes and he has influenced everyone from Zakk Wylde, Dimebag Darrell, Eddie Van Halen, etc... Also, if it wasn't for Randy, we probably wouldn't have Chuck Shuldiner, Jeff Loomis, Steve Smyth, John Petrucci, etc... Randy Rhoads (R.I.P). Enjoy.

This worked on my myspace page but I don't know why it doesn't work here. My myspace account is below. Check my bulletins.

While I despise all the music he was ever involved in, I will admit he was one hell of a guitar player. I respect his skill, talent and influence a lot.

actually, hate me if you must.... but if he did NOT die then and there, he would most likely have grown old and been forgotten about like so many musicians back then.

true to some extent. But I think this theory applies more to Dimebag than Rhoads. Rhoads was on a different league and influenced friedman, becker, malmsteen, lots of neoclassical stuff. Still death adds to your fame a lot, see Dimebag for exmaple, he has been on cover of mags more after he died than in his entire life and carrer

Oh, I'm not saying that death increased his popularity or anything. I'm just saying that if he continued, perhaps he WOULD be looked upon like Malmsteen. still doing the same thing, boring. you never really know, and I think it's best we didn't find out.

Will, I love your music, style, opinions, etc,,, but dude???? Like I said, If it wasn't for Randy Rhoads, we probably wouldn't have his great influence in Zakk Wylde, "Dimebag Darrell, Eddie VanHalen, Chuck Shuldiner, John Petrucci, Jow Satriani, etc...

Will, no disrespect to you "young/green/bunmasitch/etc..." I know you don't won't to hear it, but here goes. Will, please listen to Criss Oliva/Savatage, Jake E. Lee/Ozzy, George Lynch/Dokken. John Petrucci/Dream Theater, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie VanHalen, Randy Rhoads, & the obvopus mentioned above. along with Stanley Jordan, Al DiMeola, & local favorite Ben Lacy. Will, I have faith in you to be the next guitar hero. You are young, dumb(not really, very intelligent), and full of c*m. Please make my old ass proud.

Good Luck,

Zane

you're not getting what i'm saying. i'm not saying that Randy is overrated, because he isn't. he was amazing... but if he continued, he could have degenerated into something like Yngwie. he went out big, and that's awesome.

Will, you are wise for your age!!! Yngwie is good, but most critics consider him a genius, while others (including myself) think he is "jackoff guitar" meaning all speed & no emotion. Personally, I think Yngwie has some emotion, but in my opinion (which don't mean shit) listen to Chuck Shuldiner/Death, Zakk Wylde, John Petrucci/ Dream Theater, Alex Skonick/Testament, Dennis D'Amour/Voivod, George Lynch/Dokken, Jake E. Lee/Badlands & Ozzy, Criss Olivia/Savatage, Jerry Cantrell/Alice In Chains, Eddie VanHalen, & whatever else.

don't mean to preach, but i've downed a fifth of Jagemeister.

Yngwie was amazing earlier on, but he became a parody of himself. His earlier work did have some kind of emotion, and he had a signature style that sounded very majestic.

It's a shame Criss Oliva didn't get recognition after he died. He was an excellent guitarist.
