Rate my tone please!!!

Well it's definitely not a mic preamp thing, that I can assure you - sitck the 57 pretty much with the center of the tip of the mic on the edge of the dustcap in the center of one of the speakers in your Recto 4x12, and then work on dialing in the Recto preamp, more than likely it's the settings there that are at fault! (I've been working A LOT this past week on tweaking my Recto, it's got some powerful tone-shaping options, for better or worse!)

What are your settings btw?

that is what I thought... But I used St. Sneaps settings (I know that that is not a fix all thing) and tweeked it from there.. when I stand In front of it and jam It kicks ass!! throw some mics on it and it sounds like crap... WTF!! Now at least I got the "throat" of the tone. how far do I move mics to get the guts? One more mic maybe?

1 mic?? Where? I have tried all 4 speakers on both my mesa recto cab and my marshall 1960 cab. with both my jmp1 and my mesa recto pre and my jcm2000 in all volumes (My neighbors like me) . in almost every way imaginable, If I use 1 mic I get just kind of a lame hissy bullshit baseball bat my gear tone.

Well some of the best tones on your fav albums will have been done with 1 mic. Try ditching the 414 and stick to the 57, on axis aimed at the edge of the dustcap, with your Mesa OS about 1" away from the front cloth.

ok... Ill give it another shot but the only result I got with that was a really annoying fizz that I could not eq out. and after research on here, I saw that alot of other guys with the mesa os have the same problem.... should I go with the Mesa recto pre--->mesa 2:100---> marshall???

Hey man, it is a little thin and needs beef. What I do is boost the bass a bit on the amp before rolling off with a High Pass filter. You could also turn up the gain a hair too. It's definitley not bad. The other thing is that the bass adds so much to it, that you could end up alright.
