some more clearity and a bit of cleaning the low mids and there you have some killer 2x12 tone!
not a huge fan of the green channel anymore though, think I used it too much when I got that amp. never gone back to it since I switched to the red one

I tried the Peluso on guitar instead and damn it was soooo much better than sm57. Here is a clip:

And James I did some A/B testing between the different speakers. Not that much difference on the Mesa but on the Engl it was night and day. Preferred the bottom speakers the most, the upper ones was more fizzy and brighter in a bad way.

With the 57, just adjust your mic positioning to brighten things up. The Peluso clip sounds like a 57 in the sweet-spot. Though I don't think the first clip is bad. Could be cleaned up fairly easily with a slight boost in the 3khz, a slight cut in the 700-800hz, and then the application of Andy's C4 setting.
You say the bottom speakers sounded better, but did you flip the cab to get that speaker off the floor before micing it?
I don't agree with you on the Sm57 vs Peluso thing. The sm57 sounded way more boxy then the Peluso when the tracks where raw. The ideal is to get a great tone without to much tweaking in the DAW and i really feel that the Peluso gives that contra the Sm57. The Peluso (or any good condenser i guess) was very easy to find the sweet spot. Just an inch from the grill in front of the speaker and i was done.
Now i guess im going huntinh, after a new and better sounding Amp. Im gonna get rid of the XXX, got some strange sound in the upper mids, like you are really hearing the pick attack in a bad way.

I understood that being closer to the floor was affecting the speaker but it just sounded more solid and less Fizz then the 2 top speakers What I meant specifically, is that you can get a 57 to sound like that condenser with the right placement. The SM57 is tried and true. It's the go-to guitar cabinet mic for anyone worth mentioning. I also like the i5 a lot, because of slight character differences, but the i5 is basically just a modified SM57. Either way... it's about the placement of the mic. Find the best speaker, get that speaker off the floor (if it's in the bottom of the cab), point the 57 straight at the line between the speaker's dust cap and it's cone, 1-inch from the grill cloth, and make sure the amp is loud enough to get the speakers really moving. Usually with a 6505, that's at least 3 (red channel "Post" knob). It's a simple formula, and honestly IMO, an almost fail-proof way to track heavy guitars. Short of not knowing dick about getting the sound you want from the amp, anyway.
