right now i have an unmatched pair of octava mc012 and id like to upgrade these to something else so i can use the 012's for hats and ride.

range is $300

i was thinking sp c4 but man i have read some bad shit about them so i dunno.

the other one would be the rhode nt5's.

pad and bass roll off would be great.

what else is out there?

Send your 012's to octava mod and get something cheaper to use on hat and ride... thats what I'd do anyway.

The samsons are actually acceptable as far as I know.

Takstar stuff looks identical to every other generic mic I have seen... some are good (like red5 audio)... some are bad but takstar are an unknown entity for me.

Definitly look into octava mod though, It really does increase the detail and specifically transient response of the mic a lot.

Didn't find the shootout with C451, but here was a test where we tested out different mics to capture snare.
Shure SM57, Röde NT5, Sennheiser e604, Samson CO2, t.Bone CD55, t.Bone BD200
First the mic on the top, then SM57 on the top + mic on the bottom, then NT5 on the top + mic on the bottom. Snare was heavily damped.
