recording a quite talented guitarist

My thoughts exactly.

He can surely shred, but I've taught a lot of 13 year olds to play stuff from the crossroads solo.. But I feel that sooooo much music lacks feel now a days. blaahh

Hey dude what u doing tonight?

Oh just guitar, then some guitar. after that, maybe some guitar. Then I might sleep but probably guitar instead.

But I feel that sooooo much music lacks feel now a days. blaahh
that statement coming from you sounds pretty strange, thinking of how you edit guitars.

OT: Mad chops for sure. I must confess I thought "can shred, but can bend and vibrato?"
tho some of the longer notes sound a bit strange, I dont think it sounds like one of those guys who can ONLY shred...can he also bend and vibrato that good Lasse?

He picked a good stretch of life to dedicate to guitar practice. After getting into full time work it can be hard to find half an hour to devote to guitar each day, much less 8 of them.

Good on him! He's only 18, so I imagine over time he'll retroactively work the more feel-oriented aspects into his playing. Now he can play fast & clean, but in another 3 years I think he'll actually make that fast playing sound good.

The kid is really talented, has a good taste. I'm sure he'll expand upon it.
Regarding 'vibrato' comments, I'll just say - sour grapes.

this exactly

I always regretted not picking up the guitar in my early high-school era, I had so much time. This guy has some serious chops, hope he'll kick some serious asses soon with his playing.
Anyone else thinking it might be a great idea if Guthrie Govan taught him? :D

+1 to Ermz, if it wasn't for my last year before graduating at 18/19, I would have sucked on guitar cause after that I have never improved technically but only on the maturity side of playing.

What he has done is interesting in the long term : he can shred correctly, now up to him to turn this into gold !

I also write all guitar solo on guitar pro btw. Much easier to find good ideas, harmonically. I occasionally take a guitar, but that's pretty rare, and I play 1 hour of guitar every 3 months theses days anyway.

It is pretty amazing what some young guitarists can do. I agree on some of the points made, but still impressive. I have recently had a 10 year old student show up and in one month, he learned the entire Jeff Loomis solo album! So incredible. This kid is ridiculous. Makes me so happy to see things like this. There is definitely always room for improvement, but I love seeing things like this.

I hardly edit them anymore man. And I feel that regardless of editing techniques, something can still be very full of feeling.. There's a different level of feeling for certain things, and this guitar playing doesn't really touch any of them, other than yeah, I'm sure he physically feels what he's playing.

I am 90% feel 10% technicality when it comes to music, actually. Metal isn't even my favorite genre haha. Jazz for the win, always!

Hmm would love to hear that as everything you have posted here of your soloes have been sounding like it was guitar pro/ a synth playing it.

Dont get me wrong you are a really good guitarist, but I must admit I found it a bit funny that the statement earlier came from you

I think he's just great. I don't care about the missing vibrato on the last note. There's always so much nonsense talked about guys that can shred in general.

And everytime I get that comment, I reply the same.. It's complete bullshit. I've spent 12+ hours a day for 3-4 years straight focusing on perfecting my technique and have worked with guitarists such as Guthrie Govan and Shane Gibson. There are techniques out there that yield very specific results that are practiced hours upon hours upon hours to be perfected.. Nothing wrong with that.

This kid rules, good on him for starting young. The only reason I'm an even remotely good guitar player is because I spent a lot of time not getting laid in high school.

Techniques like programming drums?

yes.. That's exactly what I said, Jeff..

I'm just giving you shit because you can't take a joke, at all, and I find that hilarious.

I'm sorry. Part of being an aspie... I look into things far too much. 99% of the time I can't even tell people are joking in person! So I never know what to believe.
