Recording tips!?

So I just started really getting into the whole recording game, and I would like some advice/tips. Here is an unfinished song I'm working on! There is no bass track because I don't own one at the moment. (I know the guitar editing at the end is too much, I was just experimenting.) Thanks!

You could always by a midi Bass VSTi like Zombass if you dont own a bass. Sounds like you have overcompressed the song, very noticeable at 1:40 there is a nasty tone in the center that destroy the mix imo. Pretty good mix for a beginner tbh

I checked Zombass out it sounds really good, and not overly fake. haha Yeah I just used a random preset that was in Reaper for the ReaComp. That nasty tone is actually a guitar part. Its similar to the notes in the part before it, but i slightly palm muted it. Just bad playing on my part. haha I did some research on how the compressor works, I knew what it was used for but I was sure on what each parameter was doing. It sounds a good bit better now, I also EQ'ed the guitars a bit mainly rolling down around 4khz by a couple dB and cut the low mid just a hair. I'll re-upload it as soon as I get the bass track in there. Thanks for your advice!

Just like Gujukal said, VST basses are great! Also really really good, for you to get a nice quick tone, while learning and getting nice tones for a real bass and equipment. Here are a few more bass VSTi's
