EVERGREY
'Recreation Day'
(Inside Out)

Let's give Evergrey some credit: they are most certainly not just another run-of-the-mill goth-metal band. This Swedish crew try their best to steer clear of the usual traps, and for the most part they succeed. But what we're left with is a band who have an enormous potential, but seem to have more of a handle of what they're not, rather than what they should be.

'recreation Day' is the fourth Evergrey album of a career that started in 1998. It is a fascinating mix of Epic metal, death metal and some challenging stabs at dark subtelty. Not exactly a concept album, it nonetheless has a recurring theme of death and how to deal with it.

'Recreation Day' is an album by a band in transition. Their next album needs to hit home.
