Reinkaos

Yeah, it's pretty aweful. What surprised me the most was how incredibly tame and weak it sounded. I expected some really bad black metal, but with some heavy metal moments, but alas, they were not to be found. Just weak, horrid, worthless trite. Someone lock Jon back up.

This is the one people are saying sounds like the old stuff... and I'm just not hearing it. A bit more than Starless Aeon, yeah, but where's the atmosphere and even the musicianship?

See, what I don't get is how people can actually, with a straight face, call it horrid. It's not horrid, by any stretch of the word, but just merely mediocre. If that's horrid, fine, but It's not THAT bad. It's just nowhere near the greatness of SOTLB.

So basically what you are all sayng is that it's not worth owning if you want the Real Dissection.

Seriously, who wants a watered down version just to hear Nodtveitnod again?

Ah how the nostalgia kicks in.... :loco:

Yeah, people shouldn't be comparing it to SotLB, but that much is obvious.

On it's own merit, it aint bad. And the fact that it's mid paced is a GOOD THING in my book. I think I started to like it on the 3rd listen in.

Definitely worth a listen for those who haven't already written it off before hearing it.

Then again, I have no affiliation to this band whatsoever. It's not like I was pining for another Somberlain.

I bought Maha Kali the day it was available. I was super excited. Then I listened to it. :ill:

Dissection is dead.

I dont think I can look at this album without prejudice/bias. To be honest (and this does sound stupid I know) I probably would like the CD better if it were released by a different band. The number of times I've listened to there two classic albums is rediculous, The Somberlain is still one of my all time favorite albums. So when I listen to the new one I really just feel disheartened and let down.

Yeah well everyone here has only downloaded it anyway so noone's really sweating it. Most people buying it are liking what they hear I suspect. Er, otherwise they wouldn't be buying it. Something like that. :loco:

I don't understand how anyone can even consider this as mediocre. Mediocre? That would imply that this has at least some qualities, but I honestly can't find any... It's weak, sterile, it sounds forced, the leads are boring, the songs are predictable, its unoriginal, it's pretentious (I know many of you dislike this word, but come on! Anti-cosmic metal of black magic, doom and destruction!! pu-liiiz), it lacks diversity, and it's just overall cheesy. I think 'horrid' will suffice...

Yeah, I can see that. That's why for me it's not a big deal. I only heard both Dissection albums for the first time early last year so I'm not really sentimentally attached to the band or anything.

But objectively speaking, if you compare it to the latest releases from bands like Dark Tranquility, Kreator, and Sodom, it pretty much blows them away.

Put it this way, it's not as good as SotLB but it is most certainly better than the average release from bands in the same ballpark, I shit you not.

First of all, it DOES have good qualities (or just qualities). It is very well performed, no? I admit that it does sound sterile, especially compared to their earlier efforts, but the performance is fucking tight man. It's the production that's a huge problem, I gather, for most of the people on this board. Plus, to say that this is THAT far removed from the old Dissection sound is pretty stupid. Hell, the verse riff from "Starless Aeon" sounds VERY much like the verse riff from "Thorns of Crimson Death."

Well I agree about the latest DT and Sodom, but I still like Enemy of God a good deal, I just havent listened to it in forever. I think I'll come back to Reinkaos later and try to give it a fair chance though.

So? This isn't a prog band. It'll take a whole lot more to make up for all the crap.

Exactly. It's completely unoriginal. The parts that would have been somewhat interesting have already been done ten years ago. By themselves!
