IMPELLITTERI: 'New Sound' Planned For Upcoming CD - Mar. 20, 2003

IMPELLITTERI, the band led by guitar legend Chris Impellitteri, are currently working on their new CD, due before the end of the year. According to the group's official web site, the forthcoming album will represent "a new sound for the band. Fast, furious and a touch of opera. Chris has been talking with MAJOR producers to help give the band a new sound. Of course the shredding will continue. And there may be a surprise or two!!!!!" IMPELLITTERI's last studio CD, 2002's "System X", featured the services of former RAINBOW/MSG frontman Graham Bonnet.

i wanna see a comment from DL shred dude, "smythee!"

He always promised that he'd only get faster...

! remember that was the thing in the 80's... how fast you could play? it's funny now that i think about it. don't get me wrong, fast shredding is cool, but it's gotta have substance as well!

Kinda like, um, Steve S? Shred with Substance.

Only 1.1 weeks left, looking forward to the '03 shrrreeeaadda!

Hell, not to mention I haven't seen Halford since he came out of that Metallian? on stage, back in '85? I think. Anyone remember going to a Priest show during the Defenders tour? Ahhh, thinking of my early metal roots...

HAHAHA! put me on the spot why dontcha~?! that's too close to, um, home!

i know he'd agree me with me tho. if you're gonna shred, shred TASTEFULLY.

puh-leeze. you write as if you are old. the last time a person told me that, she was only 32. that's not old!!! let's talk in twenty years

!

Yeah, just turned 33.3 the other day. Halfway to hell, I say.

Remember the old JP vinyls, they had those awesome record sleeves with photos of the guys on stage? Ahh, the memories!

Old enough for vinyl...I still have that Defenders album. Jawbreaker has about my favorite guitar solo. There was another solo by Cirith Ungol -- the song "Blood and Iron" off One Foot in Hell has the second best solo ever. I cannot say why. Just that it fits right, is technically sound, whatever. I just like it, damn it. I never really cared for the band that much, either.

Imagine Smytheeee would have some wierd shit to say about those choices for best solos!

boy, do i. the last priest 'vinyl' i got was "screaming..." rob halford is still my hero!!!

smyth is pretty open minded when it comes to music and guitarists. he digs prog players, as well as classic rock players. wait 'til you hear new DL and TESTAMENT. steve and eric are gonna tear it up!

my faves include uli roth, gary moore and jeff loomis.

33? HA. young-un!

Halford and Co. played Jawbreaker this weekend and I couldn't really hear my favorite solo! Damn! The version on Live Insurrescion was played different anyway. Maybe Steve can tell the order of who played the original Jawbreaker solo(s) by playing style.

With Friedman/Mustaine, it was night and day. Downing/Tipton wasn't so obvious.

i heard a few people say they couldn't hear the guitar solos because the sound was too loud. bummer! i'll try to get smyth to respond to your post... he said he's been having problems logging in, but i'll try to talk him through troubleshooting.

Ok, with the obvious delay in me getting back into the forums and whatnot, I will now give answers to questions I ahve been dying to respond to, but could not!!! Impelliteri. Always thought he was fast, like some of that first album that Graham Bonnet did with him back in the late 80's ('87), but really never could call myself a fan, but will say the dude shredded pretty damn fast!
As for the shred with substance issue, yes, I agree that lead playing should be done as tastefully as possible, and that there should be a theme first, and all technical stuff follows if you have that in your "bag of tricks". That's always kind of been my approach, and especially on the Dragonlord album, this was my approach.
As for who soloed first on Jawbreaker, I believe it was only K.K. Downing who played lead on that one. I say this, because K.K. always had that whammy bar vibrato vibe about him, where I always felt that Glenn had more the "flash shred " kind of vibe about him. Just MHO.
And Insania, dude, about the sound the other night, I know what you mean, and watched all the other bands before us go through this as well, the sound was not as happening as it could have been, in particular on stage right( my side). Case in point, Death Angel. You're supposed to be able to hear Rob when he goes off on a solo. And you're supposed to be able to hear Mark sing a song all_ the way thorugh, not have his mic cut out in the middle of the song. These things happen. It's the nature of the beast at a show where you have 8 bands playing on the same PA all night long. Still a damn fun show, and no matter what, I'd do it all again in a heart beat!!!:flame::rock:

And I'll be in the crowd again in a heartbeat...

Some days, it just works better than others I suppose. Part of goin' it live. If I really needed everything to sound perfect, I'd never go to a show again and just listen to studio CDs. But that's not gonna happen! There's more to a show than the sound!

I'd say I'll be at Exodus tonight, but just can't find a way out there. Got other things going that, if I skipped out on, I'd probably Wake Up Dead....Shit!
