Hey guys,
I have been itching for some new tubes for my AT-100 for a while now and I have finally got the kick thanks to the old ones aging to the point where the amp sounds like complete mud. The stockers are sovtek's 5881WXT's for the power section and electro-harmonix 12AX7EH's for the pre-amp section. There is a chinese rectifier 5AR4 which I also want to replace before it blows and takes out half the amp with it. The reverb and effects loop tubes I'll leave how it is, I barely use either. So in total, I want to replace 2 powertubes (50W for now, recording in a small studio) 5 preamp tubes,(clean, distortion, phase inverter, and 2 gain stages) and a rectifier tube.
I really want to try tung-sol 6L6 powertubes and JJ 12ax7 preamp tubes, or maybe the other way around. Basically I want a very tight distortion, as high gain as humanly possible. I will be plugging directly into the amp so no overdrive or any boost, if possible. Plate voltage is 366V according to the mercury magnetics datasheet, therefore my options are wide, too wide for me to make a solid decision and that's where you guys come in. Thanks
