So I got the ENGL, and I have the opposite "problem" with it as with Revalver III. With the ENGL, I can't stop playing because I keep finding great sounds constantly. With Revalver III, I can't stop playing because I can never find a decent sound.
No tone shootout necesarry, seems quite a few are getting OK sounds with Revalver III somehow, just doesn't seem worth the time investment to me when I can just plug into my ENGL with almost any impulses (even sub-par ones) and get great tone instantly without any fuss!
The one thing NONE of the amp modelers on the market have is the instant gratification factor that real tube amps give you. Impulses are doing a great job of modeling power amps into cabs into mics, but amp modelers have yet to capture the complex, organic, harmonically rich tone of real tubes. I'd even argue that Amplitube 2 is further along than Revalver III in this respect, but both still have a long way to go before I'd ever use them on a record.
