ReValver Mk III.V (3.5) update available

Highly debatable.

The Lepou and Onqel stuff is great but it cannot match the versatility of a package like Amplitube 3. For people that are into more than just Djent and Melo-Death it's essential to have a large variety of models with equal quality, which is what you get with the commercial packages.

I'll put it this way, my two most recent releases would not have been possible if i was to stick with the freeware rather than using Amplitube and Podfarm.

Like you said, its highly debatable. I'm not saying commercial products are unusable, but I feel like the price tag is not worth it. Frankly speaking those product are over priced for what they offer IMO. But when you say those free amp sims can't match the versatility of amplitube 3...I'm sorry but you are wrong

i agree with you TOTALLY here

How so?
With Onqel, Lepou etc you've got one or two stellar simulations of specific metal amps. With Amplitube etc you've got all sorts of stuff from Fenders to Mesas, 5150s, Oranges and Marshalls, Voxs etc, all on the same level of quality. And that's not counting the piles of pedals, cabs and mics either.

As for the price, it doesn't bother me. I don't care whether one tool is free or another tool costs a years wages, the only thing that matters is that it enables me to do my thing effectively. In my own experience, both Amplitube and Podfarm are more suited to a rapid-fire creative workflow. For me it's important to be able to call have an idea in my head, call up the plugin and get it dialled in really quick rather than spending more time stacking up separate plugins (TS sim, amp, impulse loader, etc) and tweaking each seperatly, and then when i want a different amp entirely having to unload that plugin and get another one in there. Others may have a completely different way of working and thats totally fine :)

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Onqel and Lepou amps, just that for a lot of users, having one or two savage metal amps just doesn't cut it.

High expectations or not, asking users to shell out $80 for a .5 update is taking the piss. Especially after such a long stretch without any updates or fixes.

At first Revalver III was actually updated as well with bugfixes and it's free. About charging for updates - it's both a business and naming issue. Business is about money. Peavey is not the only one charging for not major updates. Line6 did that for Podfarm 1->2 upgrade, Overloud is charging for TH1->TH2 upgrade. It's always up to you to decide whether it's worth of it for you etc.

Peavey seem to have completely squandered the opportunity they had when a few years back Revalver III was the talk of the town. They could have supported and evolved the product, cut ahead of the competition and capitalised on the good will of the users.

We can only guess what was behind this decision (or the lack of). I can only say from my personal experience - bigger companies are less interested in customers and more in money. Ie in a bigger company you will here more likely a question "show me the money?" while deciding to do something.

Now the entusiasm of those early customers is being rewarded with an $80 scalping.

It depends. I for example don't expect from LePou to support his creations until the end of times either and will donate time to time. Even if there is no major update ;).

Personally, I'm a big fan of Amplitube 3 right now, but if the developers asked for 80 quid for 3.5 I'd laugh myself hoarse and take my money elsewhere.

But if it will be not major rewrite named Amplitube 11, it will be OK ;)?

Hey man if it works for you its all good:)

I just got the Revalver 3.5 update and i personally like it a lot. And i feel the extra 80 buck's is worth the extra amp's they added into it. Only thing that still blow's is their impulses but other then that if you have your own bad ass quality impulses then your fucking golden. But i won't say that the free amp sim's out there are no good cause that would just be bullshit. But I Think all the amp sim's that are out there all come in handy for something.
