Revalver IV

How much the pod costs? And how much the revalver..You can buy better config at the same cost, witch is good for everything else too.

Well after talking directly with the creator, I'm taking this entire thing with a pinch of salt. I will not discuss what he has told me, suffice to say (and me being who I am, he has no reason to fabricate) he was not as specific as the thread starter here. It seems RvMKIV is still in the early development stages.

End.

noone said it's finished or anything, it's about ideas that are being thrown around.....and this is one of the directions they are going.

so what's your point?
I have no clue who you are and am absolutely not intersted in that, I have the info directly from one of the guys at peavey, and I thought I'd share cause ppl on this forum are great and might be interested....and it seemed like it wouldn't be the biggest secret, at least the guy didn't mention anything like "don't tell anyone".

so actually all you're doing here trying to be a dick? you should go to the Harmony central forum then, they like people like you over there.

Just compared between that and Splatt's 'Inside' track (at least the old non vox version that he posted ages ago). The revalver tone has elements that are more indicative of what a real amp may sound like, whereas the Line 6 gear sounds downright more synthetic. Having said that, Splatt's sits in the mix better, sounds more lush (in context of the mix), has a better EQ curve and is less raw.

Just to clarify, the song "Inside" was done with Gearbox, not Revalver. I think you may have it confused with "Metis", which was done with Revalver II. You are right though, the Line 6 stuff does sound a lot more synthetic. The honeymoon phase of Revalver III is over for me though and I have done the unthinkable and I just bought a PODX3. My PODxt is currently for sale on Ebay if anyone is interested. Its got all the model packs including bass. Holy shit. I bitched and bitched about the PODX3 when it came out, but you know, I just can't get a better sound out of Revalver III. I have heard plenty of others that can, but for the stuff I play, I just can't get it right.

My friend and singer Matt is what made me get the PODX3. There was a big enough difference in sound between my PODxt and his PODX3 that I decided to make the plunge. It sounds less scratchy and more deep if that makes sense. I should be getting it via UPS next week and I'll try to post some examples.

I know exactly what Moonlapse is talking about, and I have to agree.

They still can't replace a mic'd up tube amp, so for most of us, they're just tracking or demoing tools, which a POD works wonderfully for. The only difference is that a POD doesn't eat up resources like a bitch or take a million years to get 95% there when it's not going on the final product anyway.

Yes, that's exactly it. You've encapsulated what I was trying to say from the start a lot more succinctly.

@Splatt: Yeah the idea was to compare an example of Revalver 3 to the Gearbox, so I know that's what you used. I remember feeling disgusted with myself when you first posted it, because it was the best sitting modeled amp tone I'd heard, and it was entirely Line 6 .

Now I'm really curious, would it be possible for one of you guys to post the song up? And the preset would be wonderful as well ;)

Hey thanks, man! That means a lot. Its just so frustrating though because I used to have every single amp under the sun and I couldn't even record them properly because of the volume disturbing my neighbors and the real reason (my wife)! So modelers have become my next best option. I'm still not 100% satisfied. I'm probably 78% of the way there. Its just good to know that people critical about tone like yourself actually like what a modeler has done! I must be doing something right I guess.

Splat if you could please link me/us n00bs to your Line 6 clips/patches, I would be more than thankfull! :)

Here it is with Curve EQ patch and all...

also, here's my soundclick page if you want to listen to what the patch sounds like. Most of the new songs are using this patch, except Lost at Sea and Sand on Fire which are both the Dual Rec model. Metis is with Revalver II.

If informing people that what you're telling them isn't actually set in stone ... if that's being a dick, then so be it.

:waah:

I've heard good stuff come out of most of the amp modelers out there. I've noticed that getting a good sound depends more on the user who has an ear for tweaking and mixing. That said, there are some amp modelers that seem to suit some people better than others for their style of music. After hearing some of Gubbkuk's clips, I find it hard to agree that RevalverIII is a "pile of piss". Same goes for Splat88 with Gearbox and Bulb with his PODXT.

Amp modelers can and do give professional tones. The POD is used by many high-profile artists and can be heard on multiple platinum selling records (not just demo tapes). Whether an amp modeler can replace a real amp or not is a separate issue and up for debate.

What really seems to have helped it along is all the work you put into balancing the EQ curve for the tone. It sits much like I'd expect guitars to in a professional rock or metal mix. Even better than a lot of them!

It's easy to get caught up in doing your own thing and never be happy, but sometimes an outside perspective can help you realize that you have gained some headway :)
