Rhythm Guitars during a Solo

Hi Andy & everybody,

I'd like to ear your considerations about the volume of the rhythm guitars during a song. Is it always at the same level or do you guys lower it sometimes during a solo or when the vocalist is singing, and maybe bring them forward for more beef on some heavy passages ?

What about the bass and the drums ?

I usually don't lower the volume of anything for vocals and leads. I usually just mix it all so that the vocals etc sit nicely on top. I think that's how most people do it as well.

I don't think that you need to change the volume of rythm guit, bass or drums. The way I do it is that the vocals and lead sit on top of everything else without changing levels of your foundation tracks.

That is of course a broad generalization which is not always true.

I'll pull rhythms down when say two tracks of overdubs come in, Killswitch have quite alot of layers and it gets a bit tricky balancing things sometimes. Dont usually pull behind the solo, but may give the rhythms a bump up when solo ends then back down when vox come back in.
