RIP Clive Burr

Clive Burr died overnight. I'm a sad little boy today.

We are deeply saddened to report that Clive Burr passed away last night. He had suffered poor health for many years after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and died peacefully in his sleep at home.

Steve Harris said “This is terribly sad news. Clive was a very old friend of all of us. He was a wonderful person and an amazing drummer who made a valuable contribution to Maiden in the early days when we were starting out. This is a sad day for everyone in the band and those around him and our thoughts and condolences are with his partner Mimi and family at this time."

Bruce Dickinson adds “I first met Clive when he was leaving Samson and joining Iron Maiden. He was a great guy and a man who really lived his life to the full. Even during the darkest days of his M.S., Clive never lost his sense of humour or irreverence. This is a terribly sad day and all our thoughts are with Mimi and the family”

As Maiden fans all know, Clive joined Maiden in 1979 and performed on the first three albums Iron Maiden (1980), Killers (1981) and The Number Of The Beast (1982). Prior to that he was a member of Samson, the band Bruce fronted before he too joined Maiden.

It was a long time suffering for him but still sad to hear the news.

At least he passed knowing that he had contributed to 3 of the greatest albums of all time and influenced countless people around the world.

Hopefully Maiden pay tribute to him during their tour, if only by introducing a song and dedicating it to him.

Would love to see Download name their main stage after him this year but I doubt it'll happen. Not big enough, I guess.

Was always a big fan of Clive and the energy he brought to Maiden in the earlier, punkier albums. I think it was the crossover of the early days and the Bruce era, and having Bruce and Clive in the band at the same time that made The Number of the Beast such a special album. His legacy will live longer than all of us. RIP Clive Burr.

RIP CLIVE BURR! This is so sad

I'm watching a live Total Eclipse clip from 1982 right now with my volume on my PC turned up and I every time I listen to my 1998 re-released copy of The Number of the Beast on my phone on public transport or CD in my car I ask myself the same question every time when I hear Total Eclipse "Why why why was this not on the original release of the album?"

I remember watching videos in primary school when we did the MS Read-a-thon to raise money for MS research and my word is it a struggle for those suffering from it, many of whom were living healthy lives prior to getting symptoms.

I think it was wonderful the Irons helped out their old mate via the Clive Aid concerts in 2002. Maybe the run for charity prior to the Download festival could have an MS Clive-A-Thon.

Maybe in the Maiden England 2013 tour (which I hope comes to my country i.e. Australia) they can replace the prisoner with Total Eclipse and have a backdrop of Clive in his honour!

Download Festival head dude Andy Copping has mentioned having the main stage named after Clive and the second stage named after Jeff Hanneman. I hope it happens because it'll be awesome, especially with Maiden headlining the main stage.

They named the second stage after Ronnie James Dio when he died - I'd say they would have named the main stage after him but the guy who founded Monsters of Rock (I think) had passed and they had already named it after him.
