87 year old actor Ossie Davis was found dead in his Miami hotel room.

Davis was an actor who starred in dozens of movies and countless hours of TV with his wife Ruby Dee. He also delivered the eulogy for Malcolm X.

His role in our times has little influence in the metal world, but in America, and in the ongoing fights for civil rights, he was a legend of the screen and an icon.

A sampling of Mr. Davis' work: "Roots: The Next Generation" (1978), "Martin Luther King: The Dream and the Drum" (1986) and "The Stand" (1994), Spike Lee's "School Daze," "Do the Right Thing" and "Jungle Fever".

He co-starred in 2003's Bubba Ho-Tep with Bruce Campbell, a personal favorite of mine.

In 2004, Davis and Dee were selected to receive the Kennedy Center Honors. He was friends with legends of the past century, including Jacke Robinson and Malcolm X.

He will be missed.
