Rise Of The Tyrant licked!!

Leeked, not licked lol, and to be honest, I'm not liking it at all, I'll still buy it when it comes out, but it doesn't sound like Arch Enemy to me, it's too old school and just plain. Doesn't inspire me what so ever.

It must get expensive buying albums that you like as well as don't like. :Saint:

it doesn't sound like an old AE album at all...it seems an 80s Marty Friedman solo album, with those oriental melodies...it sounds like a guitar hero solo album..very raw and bad sound (for me)...but it's a promo. I hope the final product will be better

it doesn't sound like an old AE album at all...

i beg to differ. Listen to the instrumental track. the chord progression is SO old arch enemy, it's practically a re-do of the end of "fields of desolation". Plus the chorus to this shallow grave also sounds like old stuff ( fields of desolation again lol). I could totally imagine Johan liva singing it.

i don't have the mp3s to reference right, now but when i get a chance to listen again i'll try to post more examples.

Lol every lick sounds like AE, The wah work makes sure of that.

There's just something about it that I don't like, maybe I'll warm to it when I get the original, so I won't wanna turn it off after the first song, due to the watermark.

Angelas vocals have always been dissapointing after Wages Of Sin. On that album she sounds great and the whole album sounds sooo good. This time the vocal delivery & arrangements sound good again IMO, but that reverb... WTF?????? It totally ruins this for me. IMHO It takes all the punch and aggressiveness away from the vocals and the whole album. The toms sound bad also, but they're just toms. I could have lived with them, but the way they mixed the vocals...

am I the only one here that isn't downloading leaked stuff ?

well, I did for dream theater and other bands...
but as Arch Enemy is one of the last band that can still make me wait like a teen for an album.... and for the respect I have for them and the time they spent on this....

I'm not gonna do this. I'm waiting for the album to come out, and gonna buy it, for once

So I listened to it today.

I felt like reaching into the air to turn an EQ knob to clear up the mix.

It sounds like their is a filter on the whole guitar mix that just makes it seem sterile.

Or maybe they hooked up Michael's wah pedal set a little above half way through the master bus durring mixdown.

It sounds big but unclear.

I like these songs alot so far. Verb is a little silly yes, and the drums could come up a few db. I think if these thigns were taken care of the mix and tones would meld really well.

Love the leads. Worth the record alone. Sick sick sick.

I also love the watermark, i think its annoyingness is great. It guarantees your gonna buy the record if you like it. Or go crazy from beeps.

ok all ive heard is the one song on their myspace and it sounds like crap. not only is the song itself "eh" but the mix is awful i feel like i couldve done a better job. maybe you guys who have access to the leaked album are hearing a better verion but from the myspace song "blood on your hands" it sounds like it wasnt evenmixed. the guitars, and im guessing that new randall head sounds like crap, you can't clarify the drums.

im either crazy, the song quality on myspace is an unmixed or mastered version, or im not crazy, the song is how it is, and it just sucks.

who did this album? nordstrom?

What high standards we all have these days! Its a good thing though. Records just consistently sound better nowadays. When i listen to this mix it sounds a bit more modern but reminds of nordstroms mixes in the late 90s and just a bit later. You could even in my opinion, kind of call this mix an attempt to recapture the burning bridges sound but fall a little short. Anyone agree?

I really think everyones being just a bit brutal on Mr Nordstrom though. I certainly find this record to be listenable. I can honestly say when i listen to it that the engineering itself appears to be Killer, and that it sounds like maybe the mix was a bit overthought.

We've ALL been there, Andy and Colin and any of the big mixers will tell you how second guessing and overtweaking, can ruin a mix. Also, sometimes there is too many people involved or the vision just isnt happening with the tracks that are present, in which case you should let tracks really set the tone. Rather than try for something that isnt there.

That being said, there is much worse sounding things coming out. Im also digging the songs like i said before, the solos just rip.

I've only heard the stuff on Century Media's site, which I assume is the same song as on Myspace (I,too, am not a DL'er).

I really like it, though. The mix isn't quite as good/clear as Doomsday or even Anthems, IMO, but I like the rawness. The guitars seems a bit loose, but, meh, I like it. And, while too much reverb can be bad, I like the rawness of Angela's vocals, they sound a little less processed this go round.
