I was reading an article about the Rock Hall inductions and here's a bit of a Van Halen snip-it (very sad actually). The first sentce of this is referring to Patti Smith, but then went into Van Halen's deal:

If the absence of her late loved ones made Smith's induction bittersweet, the absence of most of Van Halen's founding members was downright sour. Eddie Van Halen, who went to rehab last week, was a no-show, as was his brother Alex. Former lead singer David Lee Roth, who sung such hits as "Jump" and "Panama," with the band, boycotted in a dispute over what song he would sing.

The only two who were present were Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony. Velvet Revolver performed two of the band's hits before Hagar and Anthony performed with the night's house band, led by Paul Shaffer.
Hagar said he wished his bandmates could be there, but "it's out of our control."

"It's hard for Mike and I to be up here to do this, but you couldn't have kept me away from this with a shotgun," Hagar said.

This is just a sad and screwed up situation. Van Halen with David Lee Roth put Van Halen on the map. Without that line-up, they would never have been heard of. I am glad that Michael performed. Velvet Revolver should not have performed. It would have been better for Slash to get a group together and play the songs.

It is just crazy that a band that was so great doesn't even have a box set, good website or anything going right now.

Van Halen with Dave will always be the BEST and Van Halen with Sammy was good and carried the name on for a few years.

I TiVoed the show last night just so I could skip all the B.S. and see if DLR and the Van Halen brothers showed up. It turned out that was a great idea. What a shame that DLR couldn't overcome his ego to make an appearance. I understand Eddie's excuse because he has checked into rehab, but why the hell couldn't Alex show up? It was sad - not in the emotional way, but in the pathetic way.

Velvet Revolver butchered their covers (and Weiland apparently thinks he's Mick Jagger) and while they didn't sound anywhere near to great, at least Sammy and Michael got up and performed - which also proved just how bad VR is.

I watched the show last night and was also amazed at the VH turn out or lack there of. I have never known DLR to turn down ANY time in front of the camera. I don't get it. It just go's to show you how messed up these guys are. They asked Sammy if there would ever be a reuinon with all the originals + him. He said if everyone including himself decided to grow up that he would be down with it. He did however say that he had done the reuion thing with them and it was Dave's time and turn.

On a side note................When did Grand Master flash become Rock? I know you could argue that all music comes from rock or that rock is an idea or an attitude and not a genre and blah blah blah. BUT GMF & THE FURIOUS FIVE?

The above statement pretty much sums it up for me as well. Their are bands that never accomplished the status that VH did and are rockin' to this day. Kudos to Sammy and Michael for facing the situation like two men instead of spoiled ass brats! Piss on Van Halen! :Puke:

The rock N' roll Hall of Fame is essentially the pop music hall of fame, although even there it doesn't really adhere to any rules.

The criteria are any musical group that had their debut album 25 years ago or more. So really it's the Major Label Music Hall of Fame.

Truth is Eddie is one fucked up dude who can't stay away from the bottle, Lost his wife lost his band, I hope he gets it right this time... or there might not be a next time...

O.K, I just read the review of the Hall of Fame show...Why on earth did Sammy sing "Why Can't this be Love". Granted a great song but couldn't he have sang a song from the first 5 VH albums? Michael could have even sang something from those albums - he's the only one representing the beginning line-up.. UGG..o.k. no more rants about this. Sorry. On ward and up ward.
