Rockabilly/Psychobilly

Rockabilly is a combination of country and rhythm 'n blues. It was basically invented by Elvis at the Sun Studios in Memphis in the early 50's. The music is usually played by a small combo with at least a double bass (standup bass), a rhythm guitar (mostly acoustic) and an electric lead guitar, sometimes drums. The music is mostly uptempo.

What you could say is that rockabilly is basicely rhytmn 'n blues done by whites.

So basically no-one plays Rockabilly anymore.

Its coming back. At least here in San Diego with a handful of clubs (Zombi Lounge, Pal Joeys, etc). Girls are dressing like 50s pinups (not a bad thing), and guys are looking like the lead singer from Social Distortion. Mostly local bands. The good rockabilly acts (Hank Williams III, Legendary Shack Shakers) don't get much attention...not greasy enough for the "hipper than thou" set.
