I saw one down at a local pawn shop for a little under 100 bucks but without the shock mount, would you say it was worth it for some Clean vocals and maybe some acoustic guitar?
I really haven't dug the old NT-1's, but the newer, silver NT-1A's are completely usable and nice budget condensers. Works just fine on acoustic guitar and vocals.
Mine have a very wierd upper mid 'density' or presence which can make them seem strange to use. They work very well for female vocals and for people who's voices would normally seem a bit weak, but terrible on people with loud boomy voices. They are OK on acoustic.
Hey guys,
I work for a St. Louis sound system rental company, and we just did a little blog post about the NT1-A, with some specs and a video of the mic in action. Thought it might be helpul for this conversation.
Check it out here.
I've the old Nt1 and I like it enough that I'm gonn ahold onto it when I get some new mics.
It can be too bright for some voices but I really like it on hats and as the mid in a mid-side arrangemeent for drum rooms.
Been acting up on me lately though, didn't work for a session I tried it on recently but when I tried it again it seemed ok.
